Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their WW II enrichment day this week.
All children came to school in costume and were 'evacuated' via train to Budmouth Point. Billeting officer, Mrs Slatter, was tasked with finding temporary homes for the poor children who were then put to good use in the kitchen, town hall and school room.
Air raids sounded throughout the day and the children became experts in sheltering beneath tables and remembering to keep their gas masks on them at all times!
The evacuees enjoyed baking a wartime recipe, undertaking a 'Make Do and Mend' project (yes - pins and needles are sharp!) and creating a Blitz inspired city-scape. Themed lunches filled hungry mouths before the children learnt to play hopscotch in the playground. What a fabulous way to end your WW II topic Year 6!
