5th May 2023

I am writing this as I watch King Charles and the Queen Consort leave Buckingham Palace in their coach. What a wonderful sight of this historic procession making its way down the Mall! It is an event people will hold in their memories for a life time.
This is always what we aim to do at Alveston, deliver fabulous experiences and wonderful memories to our children. Long after they leave Alveston, they will remember something of the nativities, the sports days, the Queen's Jubilee and the Coronation Celebration.
Just like us, typically British, those making the procession and those watching from the roadside have not let the inclement weather put them off! We said from the start we would deliver this performance rain or shine and, just to test our true grit, we had the four seasons thrown at us yesterday before the gates even opened! It was a joy to see so many generations of our families join us for the occasion. The children delivered a memorable performance and like true professionals they did not let the rain, nor thunder, put them off. The lightning and tropical downpour was of course ordered to mark the end of the event and ensure the children moved inside swiftly!
I woke this morning with 'To the sound of trumpets...do, do, do...we will lift our voices!' on loop in my ears. What a fabulous way to start this historic day! I would like to thank all our children, our families and our wonderful staff for making yesterday a reality.
Whatever you are doing this weekend, from all of us to all of you, we wish you a restful and peaceful one.

Coronation Celebration
Here are just a selection of photos from our Coronation Celebration. We will complete a full write up in its own news piece next week.

Our wonderful Friends of Alveston added to the occasion with a creative Coronation Cake Competition and providing hot drinks, cakes and gorgeous cream teas to our families. Thank you to the whole team for supporting us and to all those who made cakes and scones for the Friends to sell. They raised a total of £405 - thank you to everyone who bought a slice or two of cake!

Jungle Art

Year 1 created a mural in the style of artist 'Henri Rousseau'. They used a range of colours to create different shades of green for the forest background. Following this, they used drawing and collage techniques to create the animals.
Reflection Bench

This beautiful addition to Alveston's playground was very kindly donated by Nadein Bahgat, Yaseen and Zeina's Mum, in memory of their special friend, Lobna. Last term, Nadein also delivered an assembly to our children reminding them of the importance of looking after themselves and to find time for peace and calm.
The children of Alveston will enjoy this bench for years to come and it will be a lovely area for the children to think, relax and reflect.
Not yet in its final position, when it finds its forever home at Alveston, we will grow beautiful climbing plants up its sides to create a sanctuary to be at one with nature.
Thank you very much to Nadein, and family, for your generosity!
They came, they saw, they conquered...again!

Alveston Primary School rediscovered its Roman roots last weekend, thanks to the re-enactment group the Vicus. With fighting demonstrations pitting the Romans against the Saxons, iron-age cooking on open flames and a chance to make jewellery and rope, Alveston's Roman history came back to life! A particular highlight for the children was their recruitment to the Roman Army, lead by soldier Marcus. The children learned to march while chanting in Latin, followed swiftly by the obligatory pummelling of the parents!

This was such a fun and creative learning experience for the children. The weather was kind and a good time was had by all - big thanks to the Vicus and the Tiddington Residents Association for this special event!
