News

21st April 2023

Welcome back everyone! Whilst we are always bright eyed and bushy tailed at the start of a new term, the first week is always the toughest! As the week progresses, our minds and bodies are trying so hard to get back into the routines of the school week, that by Friday we are all more than ready for the weekend. It is always wonderful to see our children, listen to their tales of the holidays and marvel at how much they have grown.
This term is full of big events and big emotions. It is always a mix of heady excitement, a few nerves and a splash of sadness at the transitions ahead. The adults in school go through these emotions with the children too, but our focus will always be on making these transitions as easy and seamless as possible.
Throughout the term, we will have formal days and lots of informal activities to help the children with their next steps. As always, we know these transitions can sometimes feel daunting to our parents too, so please do talk to us if you have any concerns yourselves or for your children.
Don't forget to save the afternoon on Friday 5th May for our Coronation Celebration, an event sheet will be with you early next week. If you cannot make it, please do not worry - we will ensure all the children have a ball!
Wishing you a peaceful weekend,
Anne Clewley

Star of the Week will be back next week!
Noise and Toys!

Year 4 have started their topic about sound this week. They learnt that sound is a type of energy which is created through vibrations. The louder the sound, the bigger the vibration. Mrs Onslow went to the other side of the field with some cymbals to show the particles travelling through the air. Year 4 saw the cymbals clash together before they heard the sound and then conducted their own experiments to see the vibrations.

Just before the Easter holidays, during DT, Year 4 researched, designed and created a Viking Longship Moving Toy designed specifically for use by a child in Reception class! As it was important to have a purpose and a user for our toy, we went to the Reception class during our evaluation process. We asked the other children if they would play with the toy again so we can see how we could improve our designs.
Safety and Safeguarding Measures at Pick Up

On Friday afternoon we sent a message via the website app about the safety measures we have in school around picking up children from the playground. Please do make sure you read this letter. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Clewley via parents3002@welearn365.com, on 01789 293412. Thank you.
The Romans Are Coming!

On Saturday 29th April, Tiddington Village Residents Association will partner with Alveston Primary School to hold a Roman re-enactment on our school playing fields! The aim is to let the children of the area experience more about the Romans and how they lived.

Tiddington is steeped in Roman history and a group of enthusiasts, called 'The Victus', will set up camp to show how the local Iron Age people and Romans lived in the First century AD. The group will be showing the living history of these people in the setting of a small trading town associated with the Roman military. There will be Roman soldiers, as well as Roman and Iron Age traders and villagers.

All residents of Tiddington and Alveston are welcome. Dig out your old Roman gear and come along! Roman soldiers are particularly welcome. Please also feel free to bring along a picnic.

Further details re timings and what to expect can be found here.
The Great Alveston Sunflower Competition!

Look out for Friends of Alveston selling sunflower seeds on the gate next week (Thursday and Friday morning and afternoon)! Friends are holding their sunflower growing competition again this year and hope as many children as possible will be eager to take part. There will be prizes for the 3 tallest sunflowers, so time to get your gardening gloves at the ready and get planting! Suggested donation of £1.50 per packet.

Little Kickers ~ Little Kickers have two core beliefs that they take into every football class they offer. Firstly, they believe in something they call “Play not Push” - teaching football in a fun, pressure-free environment, giving children a positive introduction to sport as a whole, not just football. Secondly, they believe football can be educational. Coached in the right way it can stimulate imagination and aid early development skills such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as a team. If this appeals to you and the young, budding footballers in your household, then please take a look here for more information.
