2nd May 2025

Welcome back! What a glorious start to the summer term! The children were so excited to see the changes to the playground. The builders have been working hard over Easter to make the surface smoother and safer and during May half term they will put new playground markings down for us too.

Our Collective Worship theme this week has been Together we ALL SHINE. It was inspiring to hear the children share ways in which they have been shining outside of school. We have heard about children learning to ride their bikes without stabilisers, caring for younger siblings in shops, walking more, representing local sports teams and others getting creative at ArtBase, to name a few. I am sure lots of children will be shining this weekend too. Do always let us know if your child has made you proud - we love to hear about it and will share their shining moments on our values posters in school.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend. Let's hope the sun holds out.

Shakespeare's Birthday Parade

Mrs Newitt and Mrs Rogers were joined by five pupils last Saturday to represent Alveston at the annual Shakespeare birthday celebrations. The day is always quite spectacular with bands performing through the streets, actors, Shakespeare himself (looking incredible for his age) and the traditional big birthday song. The schools marched through the town with flowers which were laid on Shakespeare's grave in Holy Trinity church.
Rock Out with RockSteady!

What a performance and workshop we were all treated to on Wednesday, from Ben and Millie from RockSteady! We learnt all about instruments available for the children to learn - electric and bass guitars, drums and keyboards, as well as a microphone for vocals. In a short time, they created three bands of staff, key stage 2 and key stage 1 children, who all performed incredibly. The children were so focused and tuned into the assembly and it was great fun to hear all the pop songs and singing, ringing around the school.

If your children would like lessons - do see the sign up sheet sent home on Wednesday!
Medal Maker

If you took a trip into Stratford last Sunday, you will have seen lots of people adorned with their very special Shakespeare marathon and half-marathon medals. We are proud to report that one of our very talented children, Aria in Year 4, was the winner of the medal-designing competition for the 2025 events. Sponsored by lawyers Shakespeare Martineau, the competition was open to children of all ages who live in the Stratford district. And Aria's beautiful design was the pick of the crop! What a wonderful keepsake for Aria and a lovely lasting memory of her artistic talent. Very well done!

Parent Workshop and Coffee Afternoon

As well as the Routines workshop advertised above, we will also be holding a Parent Coffee Afternoon on Friday 6th June at 2.30pm in the Community Room. Kate Perham, from our school nursing service Connect4Health, will be joining us and Mrs Rogers will also be in attendance. We'll post further details in next week's newsletter...

Easter Gardens and Egg Hunting

What a scorcher Year 1 had on their last afternoon of the Spring term at Forest School! It was an Easter themed session where they sheltered under a tarpaulin to read, 'The Easter Story'. They then gathered things to create Easter gardens complete with tomb, boulder, crosses and a miniature garden. They ended  their session with an egg hunt which spelled out a secret Easter message... 'Easter joy to you and your family!'. We hope you all had a lovely Easter break.
Years 3, 4 and 5 took part in a really interesting and informative online session all about jobs and careers within Cyber Security.
Year 4 Gardening Project: A Green Future Begins!

On Friday, the Year 4 children had an amazing time replanting our school gardening area, getting it ready for the summer and autumn seasons. With great enthusiasm, they’ve planted a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, all with the aim of sharing their harvest during school lunchtimes. The hope is to encourage everyone to try new tastes while also promoting a greater understanding of sustainability and helping to reduce our carbon footprint.

A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us in this exciting project! We couldn’t have done it without your support. We are truly lucky to have such dedicated and involved families.

We would also like to say a BIG thank you to Stratford Tesco for kindly donating the school lots of seeds for planting (and to Liam's grandma for collecting them!).

We can’t wait to see how our garden grows and to share the fruits of our labour with everyone at school!
Stratford Foodbank Needs You!

April has been Stratford Foodbank's busiest month so far so the shelves really need restocking.  If there is any help that you can give, the foodbank staff would be very grateful. To find out what is most in need, please visit here.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
