Online Safety Week

News

4th October 2024

Over the last two weeks we have had a big focus on Online Safety. We teach online safety all the time but we take a key theme and look at it in-depth each term. Read below to find out what each class has been focusing on:
Reception read the story of Smartie the Penguin. They made penguins to help them remember the story and sang the song, 'Before you click, you need to think and tell someone.'
Year 1 read the story of Digiduck's Big Decision and made Online Safety Posters with important messages that we had learnt such as - don't share images of other people or yourself.
Year 2 learnt about how to stay safe when using the internet. We discussed what personal information we should keep to ourselves like our full names, where we live and what school we go to.
Year 3 focused on how to keep their identify safe online - in any forum.
Year 4 focused on making good choices online. We revisited Digiduck's Big Decision from KS1 and used it as inspiration to create our own comic strips about being kind online. The children also explored important online decisions with Ellie and Tom by playing the educational game Band Runner. It was a valuable week of learning, helping our students become more responsible digital citizens.
Year 5 explored password security and what really makes a safe password on any device, portal or online forum access.
In Year 6, we explored and discussed key ideas surrounding online safety. We considered how we share personal information online. We enjoyed playing Band Runner (from the CEOP) and watching the videos to help us to stay safe from the risks we might encounter online.
