Residential Round-Up!

Last week, we took 28 Year 6 children on their residential.

The first pitstop at the Owl Centre always brings joy - holding and petting Digit, a beautiful Tawny Owl, and guinea pigs, feeding animals and enjoying a picnic in a barn has been the highlight of the trip for some.

At Abernant itself, we spent lots of time in and on the water - canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, raft building and much unplanned lake swimming! - as well as climbing, abseiling, survival skills and archery to name but a few of the activities. Although I do believe the 'tuck shop' and free time were star attractions for many and the midnight feasts a real treat!

Watching the children unfurl with some of the additional freedom the trip brings, was a delight. It really was an absolute pleasure to take the children to Abernant. Watching everyone try new sports and activities, succeed and surpass their own expectations, exhibit sheer joy for so many different reasons and to get to know their characters (and humour) a little more, has been wonderful.

Those who decided to stay in school have also been demonstrating their growing independence and skills as Mrs Newitt's 'Right Hand Man'. They were  also super star helpers around the school, supporting our younger children with their learning, demonstrating real talent and passion for a career in education.

As all our Year 6 children entered their final week of their seven years at primary school, I know they are completely ready for their next step in education.
