30th September 2022

This week our Year 3 children have been investigating the topic of light. Friday's Celebration Assembly was full of shining stars who have earned their award due to their 'can do' attitude and determination to do their best. As all our Stars before them, all seven children have been role models, striving to excel in all that they do.

It is wonderful to see our mission and ethos lived out every day in school and to see examples of children, and adults, shining.  Together we really do all SHINE.

We built our vision, mission and values together as a community. Children, parents and staff shared their favourite bibles stories to help us build the vision for our school. Just like Year 3 enjoying their investigation focused on light, we love to celebrate our children who are shining brightly. Celebration Assembly is a wonderful example of our children "let (ting) your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works" (Matthew 5:16) and it makes all of our hearts sing! Well done everyone!

Class Focus

In Year 3, we have been learning about Light and Shadows. We planned a fair test to discover more about shadows, and we enjoyed putting our plans into action when we conducted the testing. We found out more about how shadows change, and we loved working together to do some practical Science!

Year 2 are enjoying learning about the traditional tale, The Elves and the Shoemaker. They are learning how to find clues from the illustrations in their book. They are then using class discussion and their talk partners to expand their ideas when writing.

Save the Date! Friends of Alveston Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for The Friends of Alveston will be held on Thursday 17th November at 7pm. It will be held at school in the Community Room.

There is more information to come, but we wanted to give you the heads up! Come along to hear more about what our Friends do, the amazing events they organise and how the phenomenal amount of money they raise is spent to enhance the experience we provide at Alveston.

This year the Chair, Treasurer and Secretary of the Committee will be stepping down.

At the meeting we would like to vote in a new Committee, however we would like to invite parents to nominate themselves for the roles before the AGM. The deadline for nominations is Friday 11th November.

This year we would also like to invite joint nominations to create a whole committee. If you know you would work well with particular parents, please do nominate yourselves as a group of three. You would need to decide who would be Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, but you would know who you are working with if voted in. You may also nominate yourself for an individual role if you prefer. Send your nominations via email with the subject FOA Nomination to  tim@friendsofalveston.onmicrosoft.com and parents3002@welearn365.com.

The Friends will shortly be providing more details on the roles available and what each role will entail. While we wait for the detail, please do consider taking up a position either with two of your friends to form a committee, or as an individual nomination.

Please remember we really do need your help! If these committee positions are not filled, we will not be able to have a parents’ association and sadly it will mean the end of many exciting events our children and families enjoy.

In summary:

  • save the date – 17th November at 2pm
  • consider filling one of these vital committee positions!
  • nominate your team of 3 or yourself by Friday 11th November by emailing parents3002@welearn365.com
Important Reminders

Year 6
We shared lots of information at the Year 6 Meet the Teacher meeting on Tuesday.

Residential: The deadline for a commitment to the summer residential is 1st October. Please pay the £50 deposit on ParentPay and return the completed slip to book your child's spot. This is a very tight deadline  -if finding the deposit will be tricky but you would like to confirm your child's place, please complete the form and speak to Mrs Clewley or Mrs Foster.

Admissions Applications:  A message has been sent regarding the application process for secondary school. Please take the time to read this. Two points we raised on Tuesday: Firstly, please make sure you apply by the 31st October deadline. Late applications will be considered last, once all those on time have been placed. Secondly, please do use all 6 place options. If you missed the meeting and want to know why this is recommended, or if you would like to know more about what was covered at the meeting, please speak to Miss Eddy or Mrs Clewley.

There is also a range of useful information on the Warwickshire County Council website to help you apply, including a list of all local schools, a priority area map and a handy video to help you make realistic choices of schools. For these and guidance on how to apply, visit here.

Reminders

Parking at Drop Off and Pick Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic resuming and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
