A Panto for All

After five years, our Whole School Theatre trip was back and what an amazing day we had! The children loved the panto ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at Malvern Theatre. We had all the charms of a panto - fire, smoke-machines, streamers, ghosts, 'he's behind you' 'oh no, she isn't' and 'where's my mates?'. We laughed so much and even cried a little at the scary Carabosse, but as always, it ended happily with a vibrant stage wedding.

We also had quite the adventure and arrived back to school an hour later than planned. Traffic and a tractor led to a late show start but, luckily, the entire theatre cast was happy to wait for us to arrive, have comfort breaks and be seated. This, added to the delays leaving the theatre, due to another school, all played a part. However, the children were truly shining stars. They smiled, sang and slept their way home until they were reunited with their lunches and an exciting classroom picnic. The children, sustained with sweets and drinks in the interval, were amazing, took it all in their stride and did not utter one word of complaint...demonstrating once again how wonderfully resilient they all are.
A huge thank you to our incredible staff who stayed later than planned to look after our children.

Our trip this year was completely funded by a donation from the family of an old Alveston Head Teacher from the 1950/60s. His daughter told us he always liked to take the whole school -  children and staff - to experience trips and visits. This seemed like a fitting tribute, especially as so many of the children were excited by this being their first theatre visit or first ever panto. It was wonderful for us that this experience (that cost in excess of £5000) could be completed in his memory. We really do hope to be able to do this again in the future.
