Robotics Experience
On Tuesday, Years 3 and 6 enjoyed a Robotics Experience. The aim was to develop understanding of computing and how technology can solve problems and also to provide experience of collaborative problem-solving.
The children in Year 3 had a great day working in teams to solve problems creatively using technology. They designed, made, programmed and tested robots which used distance and tilt sensors.
Year 6 built their own robots, programmed them by writing code and then set them off to fight one another! There was great participation by all and lots of fun and laughter.
November is Barvember!
This month the children have been learning to use the bar model to help them solve multi-step problems. The bar is a great way to 'see' the maths behind the problem and helps the children to understand which calculations they need to carry out and in which order. We've been so impressed with their confidence and resilience when tackling these problems and we're sure they'll take this bar modelling tool with them as they continue their maths journeys. Above are a selection of solutions from our talented mathematicians across the school.
Alveston Runners
Our intrepid runners faced the windy Autumn weather to take part in the Cross Country meeting last Saturday (18 November), hosted by Stratford Upon Avon School. Well done to Theo, Oliver and Willow who placed 13th, 6th and 21st respectively. You did a fantastic job and represented the school and yourselves brilliantly! The next cross country race will be at Stratford Town Football club on 20 January but will be for Years 5 and 6 only.
Shoeboxes filled with LOVE!
This week Alveston sent 100 shoebox presents to the charity Teams4U. Our shoeboxes will make their way to either Romania, Georgia, Moldova or the border of Ukraine very soon.
With so much financial uncertainty for us all, this total is truly amazing. Everyone in our community has been involved in this project - children, parents and staff - and we cannot thank you enough. Alveston, you are truly wonderful!
Bob and Chris, our local Teams4U volunteers, very kindly sent us a wonderful photo of our shoeboxes at the depot, with the following message:
"Thank you staff, children and parents for the donation of 100 shoe boxes to the Christmas appeal. Hope you all have a happy Christmas and return invigorated, ready to face 2024". Thank you Bob and Chris!
Alveston's Playground Development
We were so excited to share our project plans with all our children on Thursday this week...and we are delighted that the children were unanimous in giving the design a big thumbs up!
St. James' Knitted Tree
If you go down to the church today, you're in for a big surprise! Some of our children, staff and parents joined Revd. Linda and her team to help to construct and decorate the knitted Christmas tree...and wow! What a tree!

Open for Business!
During November we welcomed over 70 new parents to two Open Mornings for Reception 2024. It was wonderful to see everyone, to meet so many new parents and children, and to talk to them about all that we do at Alveston.
The tours of the school were given by our fabulous Year 6 children and the feedback was amazing. Thank you and well done to all those involved, we were all so very proud of you!
Thank you to Alex Quinn Chair of Governors and Cindy Michael, Treasurer of Friends of Alveston for also joining the Open Mornings and helping to answer all the parents questions.

Christmas 'Spruce up Your Uniform' Day!
The Friends of Alveston elves invite you to spruce up your school uniform with a dash of Christmas magic on Friday, 1st December! Wear a festive jumper, t-shirt, socks, or anything merry to add a cheerful twist to your uniform.
The Friends elves have heard through the grapevine that the bottle tombola is a crowd favourite at the Christmas fair. However, they've discovered a little hiccup - no bottles! Fear not, as a delightful forfeit for donning your festive attire, we kindly ask for your support by donating a bottle. Your generosity is the key to making this event *sparkle*

The Big Ambition
The Children’s Commissioner recently launched The Big Ambition, a new campaign to hear directly from children, young people, and parents across the country about what they need to make their lives better.
As we approach the General Election, now is a crucial moment to take children and young people’s voices to policymakers, Government, and decision makers, to make sure they are heard.
The Children’s Commissioner wants to hear from every child and young person in England about their schools, communities, family life, and the wider world. As well as what they want for their future, their hopes, dreams, and aspirations.
This survey is for all children and young people aged 6-18 and for parents/carers who can complete the survey on behalf of children aged 0-5. Adults can also assist children who are unable to complete the survey independently.

New Year "Skills and More" Activity Camps ~ take a look
here for details about some exciting activity camps taking place in January. Primary school-aged children are welcomed to the Central Ajax Stadium in Warwick for football, drama, cookery and more! (Childcare vouchers are now accepted).

here or under the "Our Community" section of our website. This November take time to celebrate what makes you unique by taking part in Odd Socks Day during Anti-Bullying Week. The Anti-Bullying Alliance have set the theme 'Make A Noise About Bullying' and will encourage young people to consider what bullying means, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. Odd Socks Day is on Monday 13th November, where adults and children wear odd socks to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality. Also, find out about the festival of Diwali, the five long day celebration that represents new beginnings and the victory of light over darkness, good over evil. The newsletter contains links to fun and interesting information and resources.
Parents Helpline and Webchat ~ YoungMinds are the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health. This charity also offers three different services to parents and carers who are concerned about their child’s mental health, up to the age of 25. General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Warwickshire Music have opened their waiting lists for: Piano, Violin, Oboe, Flute, Clarinet, Tenoroon/bassoon, Cello, Viola and Guitar (age restrictions apply to some instruments. Coronavirus within school
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, or has one or more of: temperature, continuous cough, loss of sense of smell or taste, please keep them off school for a minimum of three days or until they are better after three days. Please report all absences to the school office as below.
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412 and leaving a message. You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick. Absences for sickness will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.
Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer. Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form: parents3002@welearn365.com.
