News

19th January 2024

There is no doubt it has been a cold and frosty week! The beautiful, bright sunshine has been a wonderful addition with glorious sun rises, sunsets, sparkling trees, hedges and playgrounds providing a super backdrop to our week in school.
We returned to our value of 'kindness' this week and have explored all its elements. From compassion and empathy, to nurture and forgiveness, we thought about where we are seeing fabulous examples of kindness in our world and where it is sadly lacking. The children shared their thoughts on countries at war and the need for forgiveness, and discussed footballers, who haven't forgotten where they came from and show such compassion for the people of their home land.
On days such as today, with the sun so bright and the landscape so pretty, it is hard to believe there is so much turmoil in the world, both near and far. It is however a reminder of its beauty and that with small kindnesses, compassion, empathy and forgiveness, we can all make a difference to the world and to each other.
Wishing you all a wonderful, winter weekend,
Anne Clewley

Sing Out Loud!

On Friday 12th January we took our children to be part of the largest Children's Choir in the World! Almost 6,000 children singing in harmony with some of the biggest names in the world of music. This was the 4th time we have taken the children, since we joined the choir in 2019, and the event never disappoints! Simply stunning.
You can read more and see a selection of photos here.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Newitt for organising the event, for all her hard work on the day and for coaching our children in her Choir Club. Well done Mrs Newitt - another fabulous experience for our children!
Fun and Games at the MAD Museum!

Back on 22nd November, Year 2 went on a trip to the Mad Museum in Stratford Town Centre. The children had a good leg stretch on their walk into town and then explored the exciting models and machines in the Mad Museum. The trip to the Mad Museum has extended the children's learning of design technology and how machines and mechanisms move.  One of our Year 2 children, Quinn, has written us a brilliant account of the trip for you all to enjoy:

"After days of waiting the day came to go to the MAD museum. We had to walk into town a long way but we passed time singing "I'm a Banana". Me and my partner Ben chatted a lot too. It took so long that when Mrs Potter crossed the road I could barely do it because I was exhausted. When we got to the museum I climbed the stairs and when I got to the top I couldn't believe my eyes. The museum was small but it was filled up with loads of inventions. A man told us the instructions and rules and we explored. My favourite ones were the marble runs and a treasure chest that a hand came out of and terrified everyone. I also liked the aliens painting and the George Pig train. When Mrs Potter said it was time to leave I felt a little upset because I had had such fun. But I was very hungry so I walked very quickly. For lunch I had a ham sandwich, some veg sticks and for dessert I had a biscuit and some raisins. Then we played tag and I wasn't *it*once. On the way back me and Ben talked about Sonic and how fast he is. When we got back to school we were so exhausted that Mrs Potter let us do colouring for the rest of the afternoon."

Well done, Quinn! What a wonderfully-written account of a great trip and a great day.
V.I.P. Visitor!

Our classes had a very special visitor on Friday! Mrs McFeely dropped in with the latest addition to the McFeely family - Lucinda Edie. The children were very excited to meet her! Breathtakingly beautiful, teeny tiny and just eight weeks old, Lucinda slept peacefully through her first visit to Alveston. We hope to see her again soon!
After-School Clubs - Change to Pick-ups from 22nd January 2024

From Monday 22nd January, after-school club pick-ups will be from the Football Club gate, rather than the main gate on Knights Lane. This is for both teacher-led and externally-provided clubs held on school premises.

We have received feedback from parents who have said that it feels really dangerous on Knights Lane at club pick-up time. More cars are parked on that road, more pedestrians cross between them bringing the increased potential for an accident in the dim light. It is felt that people would park more safely in the Football Club.

We would like to trial this arrangement for this half term and see how it works for everyone - we welcome your feedback at the end of term.

Please do get in touch - via parents3002@welearn365.com - if you have any questions.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Coronavirus within School
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, please keep them at home for three days or until they are better after three days. Please report all absences to the school office as below.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412 and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick. Absences for sickness will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form: parents3002@welearn365.com.
