28th February 2025

What a joyous first week back we have had. It has been lovely to have seen so much sunshine. Many of you have commented about the lovely weather on the gate - how the brightness truly makes us all smile from within. I have felt so proud of our children this week - I have seen some wonderful learning in the classrooms and being celebrated with families in our first class celebration of learning assembly with Year 6. Last night, I was blown away by our children at Young Voices 2025 (read more here). The Alveston community is so special and this week has been a perfect example of that. We look forward to welcoming lots of you in over the coming weeks for your children's class assemblies. This week we also have our special worship for Ash Wednesday to mark the start of Lent. We are going to encourage the children to, instead of give something up for Lent, consider 40 acts of Kindness that they could work towards instead.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Love is in the Air

Year 1 celebrated Valentine's Day at Forest School on the last day of term. They heated dough balls on the fire which were delicious and mixed up some magical love potions!
Creative Writing

Prior to half term, Year 1 had been learning new skills to write a diary entry imagining that they are Rapunzel. They have worked hard to understand that using 'I', 'me' or 'my' in their writing shows that they are writing in the first person. The children have shared their ideas on how Rapunzel may have been feeling and used them to write sentences in the first person. They shared ideas such as: "I am locked in a tower and I feel scared." It has been wonderful to see their writing skills develop and produce some super diary entries. Well done Year 1!

Little Sculptors

Year 1 were inspired by the sculpture Samantha Stephenson who enjoys creating cylindrical and steel sculptures. The children made their own ‘tower sculptures’, using card and scissors to create towers of different sizes, before gluing them onto a piece of card. They cut tabs into the bottom of their sculptures to provide stability and ensure that the towers would stick to the card.
Year 6 Shining Brightly!

Congratulations to Year 6 for their fantastic class assembly this week! The students delivered an energetic rendition of La Bamba using glockenspiels and recorders. They also watched a video showcasing their Spring term learning and shared poetry inspired by Rudyard Kipling's poem, If.
Light and Dark

Year 4 have had a busy couple of days painting in their topic of 'light and dark'. They have experimented with shade and tint, mixing their own colours and different painting techniques such as pointillism and stippling. They have arranged their own compositions for a final piece to follow!
Online Safety

In Year 6, the children considered how to control their images online. They thought about what happens to photographs online and shared their ideas about how they can maintain control of their images.
Parking Problems

This week, things have proved a little tricky on Knights Lane with gas works encroaching on the road and disrupting traffic flow. Unfortunately, this has prompted some careless parking in the mornings which has lead to residents' driveways being blocked again. We have also had reports of this happening after school too. Please, please consider our residents and avoid parking on Knights Lane. Stratford Football Club car park has plenty of space for everyone to drop-off and pick-up and provides a safer and much less stressful parking experience for all. Thank you.
Sporting Stars

We have more amazing sporting achievements to report on!

Harvey-James, from Year 5, has been very busy! He played in a rugby tournament at KES Boys School in Stratford town. He scored 9 tries for his team and was chosen as "Man of the Match" - amazing! Harvey-James’ team were placed 2nd overall in the tournament.

Switching to football now, Harvey-James, Kaisen and Elliott (all Year 5) recently progressed to the Evesham Ambassador League Cup Final for the second year running, representing Stratford Town U10s! The boys have had to play several cup games against some strong opposition within their league to get this far. They now face Drakes Broughton in the Cup Final. A huge achievement for the boys and we are very proud of them all. Good luck in the final!
Musical Theatre Club at Alveston!

Black Box Tuition are inviting children from both KS1 and KS2 to their musical theatre workshops, right here at Alveston Primary! They are also offering an Easter holiday camp in Evesham for those with the acting bug.

Black Box was founded in 2024 with the aim of building young people’s confidence through Vocal Tuition, Musical Theatre & Drama Clubs in Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and The Cotswolds.

Taking into consideration the positive impact that the arts have on a child’s mental health, Black Box found that children who attend their classes not only find their voice through singing, but they build in confidence, expand their public speaking ability, hone their social skills, and respond positively to constructive feedback.

Why not take a look at their website for more information.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
