Evacuated!
Year 6 had a fabulous day out this week at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway!
The children enjoyed a steam train ride from Winchcombe to Broadway and back again. On the train, they participated in a ‘war-time song’ session and were even tasked with locating a spy! Back at Winchcombe we heard war stories from Farmer Bill and a real-life evacuee called Marcelle. We went to school and experienced a variety of primary historical artefacts - including toys and clothes. We experienced a black-out air raid and even got our chances to be firemen by playing an exciting team game. The children looked wonderful in their 1940s evacuee costumes and they enjoyed their war-time lunch.
The weather was just glorious. It was a really successful day, full of fun and laughter and happy memories.
Thank you to our parent helpers Mrs Hykin and Mrs John - we couldn't have managed without you!
Year 2 - In 1666 London burnt like rotten sticks!
Year 2 have been creating collage pictures inspired by their topic,
The Great Fire of London! The children enjoyed using their creative skills to think about the timber frame buildings, in 1666, and used different colours to create the dramatic fire background. Year 2 have also been busy in Science, learning about everyday materials and their uses. They had a
materials treasure hunt around the school grounds and then discussed why different materials are used for different purposes.

General Reminders
Parking at Drop Off and Pick Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic resuming and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
