Greek Salad, Anyone?
This week, Year 4 have been busy preparing and making their very own Greek salads - the smells coming from the classroom were fresh and delicious! As part of the Chefs "Adopt-a-School" programme, the children analysed the different tastes, smells and textures of their ingredients and chose how to prepare their dishes, with advice and guidance from Chef Idris. As part of this process, they learnt the "bridge and claw" cutting technique, helping them on their way to becoming safer and more efficient in their food preparation. Very impressive! Taking this further, Year 4 went onto designing their own Greek salad in Design Technology - they decided that their end-user would be a primary school child, with the purpose being to encourage them to study Greek culture. Great work, Year 4!
Football Festival
This week, our Year 6 Boys football team took part in an exciting football festival, hosted by Studley St. Mary's school, playing against 5 other local school teams. Not only fun, this event was all about promoting a friendly, competitive spirit and encouraging teamwork. While our boys team sadly weren't victorious on this occasion, they showed commitment and tenacity and tried their very best to the final whistle. Well done!
Bagged It!
I can safely say that we well and truly bagged it up for Alveston's Bag2School collection this week. Just take a look at that veritable mound of donations above!
Our collection weighed in at a whopping 467kgs this week and raised the school a wonderful £186.80!! Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to sort through their unwanted treasures and donate to this fantastic cause. We have been informed that your items will be heading to the Ukraine to people that are in need, which is wonderful news. Thanks again everyone for your generosity!
Staff Announcements
Au Revoir!
As you know, Mr Donovan celebrated his 70th Birthday in March. With so much he would like to do, he decided to hang up his keys and retire for a 2nd time at Easter. Having joined Alveston to just help us out in the short term, he stayed and looked after us for over 3 years! We have been very grateful to him, as since Easter, he has continued to come in twice a week to support us while we recruit. This week though, we have bid him a fond 'au revoir' as he heads off on a well deserved cruise. Good luck Mr D with all your plans for your next exciting chapter, we wish you and Mrs Donovan all the very best.
Welcome to the A Team!
We are very pleased to announce that Mr Leonard has joined us to step into Mr Donovan's caretaking shoes. We are so lucky to have found him too! He joins us just for a few hours a week to start but this will build over time. So look out for him and do say 'hello'! Mr Leonard is a member of the Tiddington community and as his three children are all Alveston Alumni, he already knows lots of the A Team. Welcome Back to Alveston, Mr Leonard!
We are also delighted to announce that we have appointed Mrs Sinclair to our Office Team. We have no doubt she will further enhance our wonderful team and help us to shine all the brighter. An experienced and fabulous Teaching Assistant at Holy Trinity Primary School, she will join us on Monday 3rd June. Mrs Sinclair knows some of our parents and staff already, and I am sure you will join me in providing her with a warm welcome to Alveston.
Fancy New Fence!
We have been very lucky here at Alveston to be kindly donated the timber supplies to revamp our slightly sad-looking KS1 fencing. Stephen Lomasney, of Avon Timber, kindly provided us with sparkling new wood to ensure that our KS1 outdoor area remains a safe and secure place for our young children. We thought we'd let you all have a little look at the "before" and "afters" - I think you'll all agree that it looks fabulous!
Roll up, roll up!
Don't forget to secure your tickets for our Circus Summer Fayre as the weekend draws near! We're thrilled about this upcoming event.
The circus will roll into the school front field on the morning of May 24th and spend the day with our children, offering circus training sessions for each class. It's going to be a day packed with fun and excitement!
But that's not all! Along with the circus, we have some fantastic stalls lined up:
Sweet Tombola
Chocolate Tombola
Teddy Tombola
Hook-a-Duck
Food & Bar
And lots more!!
Internet Safety/Appropriate Online Activity
We are very aware that, as an education setting, we play a crucial role in promoting online safety for children, and engaging our parents and families in setting parental safety settings on your children's devices. There are many things online that children are not yet ready to know, and parental safety settings serve as a vital protective measure. Please take a look at the helpful guide here from Safety Net.
Community Interest
We post all community events and projects on our website under 'Our Community'. For more information about activities open to you, your family and your local community, please do check the page regularly. With Spring sprung (kind of!), we have some information regarding new clubs, local events and May half term clubs:
Last but not least, you can also find a list of
Stratford Food Bank's latest "MOST WANTED" items right

General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email
parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.
Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer. Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
