February 2026

6th February 2026

Today’s Relax the Rules Day was a wonderful celebration of individuality, creativity, and confidence across our school. It was truly lovely to see so many children expressing themselves so freely — from fantastic costumes and colourful hair to interesting (and impressive!) snack choices. What stood out most was how confidently the children shared who they are. Their personalities shone through in so many different ways, reminding us just how unique and vibrant our school community is. Whether bold, quirky, thoughtful, or playful, every child brought something special to the day. Alongside the fun, the children also showed great generosity by raising money for the Friends of Alveston. Taking part while supporting a good cause made the day even more meaningful, and we are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and kindness. Thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a success. It was a joy to see the school full of colour, character, and smiles — a true celebration of being yourself.

As we look ahead to next week we have lots to fit in before we break up, with Online Safety week, our first ever Camp Out in the school hall for Year 4, as well as a football match against Holy Trinity!

Wishing you a lovely (albeit wet) weekend!

Children's Mental Health Week - Cake Sale

Next week, we will be raising awareness of Place2Be's Children's Mental Health week in school.

As you may be aware, we are very lucky as we have Laura from Place2Be working with our pupils in school every Thursday to support their Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

On Thursday 12th February, Mrs Rogers and Laura from Place2Be will be leading a special afternoon assembly for the children. We will also be having a cake sale after school on this day and all money raised will be given to Place2Be.

Please can we ask you to support this event by bringing in donations of cakes for us to sell at the cake sale on Thursday 12th February. Please hand the cakes in at the school gates on arrival to school.  Please also come along at the end of the school day to support this event by buying a cake or two!
Would You Like to Volunteer at Alveston Primary?

Could you spare an hour or two a week to listen to our readers, assist at Forest School, or perhaps be a librarian? If you are keen to volunteer at Alveston we would love to hear from you! We know that spare time is precious but any help you could give would be much appreciated. If you think you can help, please call on 01789 293412 or contact us via email on parents3002@welearn365.com.

Many thanks!
Exploring Photographic Techniques

In Art, Year 6 are exploring creative photographic techniques. They have learned about composition and photomontage, inspired by the work of Hannah Höch, and are also using macro photography alongside the work of Edward Weston to create abstract photographic art.
Forest School Adventures

Last week, Year 2 had an exciting afternoon at Forest School last week! The children were busy building shelters, starting fires, and learning essential outdoor skills. They even got to toast marshmallows over the fire, which was the perfect treat to enjoy after all their hard work. Year 2 were absolute superstars, showing great teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the afternoon.
Year 5 and 6 Indoor Athletics

On Wednesday morning, Year 5 and 6 proudly represented Alveston at the indoor athletics competition held at Stratford High. They took part in a range of track and field events, cheering each other on and showcasing their fantastic talents. We are currently awaiting the results and will share them as soon as we know. Well done to everyone who took part – it was a great morning and a wonderful display of sportsmanship.
Superhero Bootcamp!

This week, Year 2 took part in a fun Superhero Bootcamp as part of their Parkour and Apparatus unit. They’ve been working hard on improving their movement, balance, and safety throughout the half term, practising their skills with creative themes like Antarctic explorers. This week, they became superheroes, focusing on strength and fluency in their movements. It was an action-packed session with lots of energy and teamwork!
Bikeability

This week, Year 5 took part in Bikeability Level 1 and 2 training. Pupils learned essential cycling skills including bike control, road safety and how to ride confidently and responsibly. They showed great focus and enthusiasm throughout the sessions and have definitely developed their confidence on two wheels. The Bikeability instructors have been seriously impressed with the children's commitment and tenacity in some challenging weather this week! Well done to all the children for their positive attitudes and excellent effort during the training.

Special Edition of Family Information Service's Newsletter - Reading Together

This month, the FIS are focusing on something simple that can make a big difference in your child’s life: sharing books together. BookTrust’s Building Bonds Through Sharing Books research shows that those little moments spent cuddled up with a story aren’t just enjoyable; they help your child feel safe, connected, and understood. Reading together supports their learning, builds confidence, and strengthens the bond you share every day. Read more here.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please note: Parking is only available if there are spaces free and we can only park in the allocated bays. Once all the marked bays are full each day, parents will need to find alternative parking when dropping off and collecting their children. Please do not park in any other areas of the car park going forward. Please do not park on any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings at the main entrance to school. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
parents3002@welearn365.com
