News

21st March 2025

This week we have been thinking about ambition and the things that we all can do to aim high and achieve our dreams each week. Four children in Year 4 certainly set the bar high at the Reading Celebration at the Library this week - showing off their reading and winning the competition. Year 6 have been learning life-saving skills as First Aiders and Year 1 were taught by the Fire Service about Stop, Drop and Roll. All these extra things develop our children and help them to widen their knowledge, hopes and dreams.

I hope you enjoyed reading our SIAMS report this week. We are so proud that we were able to show how all the children, and adults, in our school SHINE each and every day.

How wonderful to have seen so much sunshine this week - enjoy it this weekend!

Toys and "Squishees"

Please can we remind you that children should not bring toys and "squishees" into school unless an agreement has been made with the class teacher (in which case, please ensure that it is one small item only).

Congratulations to this week's Team Point winners, Othello Yellows! It's been a while since Othello Yellows have been victorious and we are all very pleased for them. Well done to anyone who earned a team point this week.
Mothering Sunday Service and Lunch

The Parish of St James' and St Peter's invite you to a Mothering Sunday Service followed by lunch at Tiddington Community Hall on Sunday 30th March. For more information and who to contact to book your place, please click here.
Are you, or do you know a chartered accountant?

Our amazing Friends of Alveston need their accounts audited. If you know someone who could help us to do this, without it taking away valuable funds from the children, please please get in touch with the office. Thank you!
Catch Up on British Science Week!

We had such an exciting time in school celebrating British Science week last week - there was a definite science buzz around Alveston Primary and there are so many highlights to tell you about and pictures to show you, right here.
Prize-Winning Readers

Four of our Year 4 children were invited to a reading celebration event this week at Stratford Library. This free event formed part of a wider initiative, run by Warwickshire Libraries, to promote the enjoyment of books and reading.

Max, Korra, Hattie and Benji travelled with Mrs Wilcock to Stratford Library on Wednesday to take part in the celebration and put their knowledge to the test in a fun quiz. Our children truly shone at this event by winning the quiz! How wonderful!
Cloud Busting and Bat Facts!

Year 5 had a terrific time at Forest School last week with their activities focused around Science Week. The children made cloud view-finders to help them identify clouds and measure cloud coverage. Some children had a go at fastening clove hitches whilst others played a 'bat and moth' echolocation game, learning bat facts along the way. Lots of fun!

Hop on the Smoothie Bike!

As part of Educaterers' "Eat Them to Defeat Them" initiative, the children got to make fruit smoothies...with a difference. Pure pedal power (and a sprinkle of healthy competition) resulted in the most delicious drinks in the lunch hall. The stationary bicycle harnessed the cyclists' pedalling energy to mechanically power a blender.  Milk and fruit went into the blender jug and after 30 seconds of cycling, the children were rewarded with a healthy, nutritious drink.  It really is a win-win with the smoothie bike - the children got active and then had a healthy, refreshing reward after their hard work...and big smiles all round!
Stop, Drop and Roll!

On Thursday afternoon, Year 1 had a visit from some of the Firefighters from Warwickshire Fire Service. They came in to tell the children more information about fires including how they can start and how they can prevent them. The children learned a simple rhyme: "Matches and lighters never touch, they can hurt you very much." The firefighters brought in the protective clothing that they wear to prevent them from getting burnt - they even made Miss Bill try it on! The children were later shown what to do if the they were to ever catch on fire: 'Stop, Drop and Roll!'
First Aiders

As part of our PSHE curriculum, Year 6 participated in a 'Basics of First Aid' course. It was led by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service. Each child engaged in a focused 90-minute session within small groups, where they gained essential skills in CPR, the recovery position, managing bleeding, applying bandages, responding to fainting, and much more. These fundamental life skills are invaluable, equipping the children with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergencies and mitigate the impact of injuries. I am truly delighted that they were able to learn such crucial, life-saving techniques.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
