16th September 2022

The beginning of a new school year is much like New Year's Day. Although sad to end our summer holidays, we start September with so much hope, anticipation and excitement for the academic year ahead. Fresh starts, new school books, pens and pencils. Who doesn't love writing on the very first page of each new workbook, neatest hand writing and a pledge to continue as we have begun? With so much hope we quietly declare “This will be the year I will...”

This year the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the sorrow of her passing, the preparations for her funeral and reflections on her life and service are mixed with the beginnings of a new era, the proclamation of our new King and thoughts of how our Kingdom may look in the future. Sadness of what we have lost, mixed with hope for the future.

This week during Collective Worship, I shared the story of 'A Little Town Called Hope'. An inspiring and beautiful children’s book, it shows how all of our emotions can find purpose and power when they are partnered with Hope. Beautifully written and illustrated, it was perfect to help us to focus on our school value of Hope during this period.

However you will spend this weekend and the Bank Holiday, I hope you will all find some peace, calm and hope for the future. We look forward to welcoming all our children back to school on Tuesday 20th September.

Commemorative Art for Her Majesty.

Escape Arts issued a call for help this week. With a desire to bring our Stratford community together, they set out to create a fitting display to commemorate our wonderful Queen. Alveston answered!
This week, every child at Alveston has contributed a purple flower. We were delighted to add hundreds of purple flowers to the project.

Here is a small selection of those hundreds of beautiful flowers our children made in memory of her Majesty. They will form a display in the Debenhams window in town. The display is being constructed as I type and will be ready for viewing by Monday. Well done Alveston!
Seesaw and Home Learning codes

You should by now have received your new family app QR code for Seesaw.

We are excited to get back to using Seesaw to share and focus on your child's wonderful work. Years 5 and 6, who will use Seesaw for homework instead of a book, will have also received home learning codes. Other classes do not need these. Further to our communication letter last week, please do send all communications to our new email address parents3002@welearn365.com.
Reminders

Parking at Drop Off and Pick Up

We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their carpark for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs.

The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
