Wow! What a fabulous final week to end our first term of the year. We were determined this year to bring back all those amazing Christmas traditions that we haven't been able to do over the last two years. The week has truly been jam packed with Christingles, singing, Santa and memory making with friends.
Our Christingle service on Tuesday was amazing. The most incredible part, without doubt, was watching the faces of the children and the parents as the candles were lit and the lights were switched off whilst the children sang Away in a Manger. Seeing the smiles on so many faces, photos and videos being taken and people clearly absorbing the moment made the chilly journey and even cooler church worthwhile.
Our last day today has been filled with festive fun. Everyone going above and beyond to make each part of the day extra special for our children. From Mr Hollis serving up the Christmas crackers at lunch to DJ Si playing the festive music as we went home to Mrs Quainton Stubbs escorting Santa on a tour of the school - all in the name of making special memories for the children to treasure always.
As we head into Christmas, the weather is set to warm up slightly. Whilst our energy bills will appreciate this, how lucky we were to start the week with the snow we had on Sunday. Undoubtedly the children will always remember playing in the snow with their friends on Monday - from Year 6's snowman to Year 1's snow angels. On that note, the theme as you can see is my thoughts on making memories. So, let me leave you with this - we don't remember what gifts we had at a specific age but we all remember the traditions and the love that surrounded us at Christmas. From our school family to yours, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Merry Madness!
 
On Friday 9th December, Year 2 went on a trip to the Mad Museum! They had a lovely winter walk into town and enjoyed the atmosphere of the Victorian market. They then explored the exciting models and machines in the Mad Museum. Children's favourites were the giant marble run and the exhibit called The Truth. As we walked through the market we then saw a very important person…Father Christmas! He stopped to say hello and to wish us a Merry Christmas.
 
The trip to the Mad Museum has extended the children's learning of design technology and how machines move. After Christmas we have special kits to assemble from the Mad Museum.
 
We loved our trip and decided the Mad Museum was amazing! 
Abstract Art
 
Year 6 have been learning all about abstract art and the artist Kandinsky.
 
They examined Kandinsky's artwork and how he uses lines, geometric shapes and primary colours, with black and white to lighten and darken the colours. They considered what they saw in his artwork, for example, some children saw a violin and others an animal.
 
Year 6 then painted their own artwork in the style of Kandinsky to a 'blood heart' theme.
 
In keeping with this theme, Year 6 have performed a heart dissection in class this week as well participated in a first aid course with Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Training Services.
 
What a week, Year 6!  Well done!

Stratford Foodbank Food Parcels ~ the Christmas school holiday is upon us and we are conscious that the lack of school meal provision during the holidays will be hard for many families. Stratford Foodbank are providing food parcels and emergency food support for anyone that may require help over the holiday season. Please click here for more information and please do make use of this service if you require it.
 
Christmas Church Services ~ dates have now been published for the wonderful Christmas Services at St James Church, Alveston. Please click here for details.
 
Come and See Santa in Stratford! ~ Shakespeare Lions charity are kindly helping Santa with his busy schedule of visits around Stratford this December. To find out where and when you can catch him, and his helpful elves, click here!
 
Princethorpe College Taster Events ~ Princethorpe College are holding two events in the New Year for Year 5 children - an annual Year 5 Choral Fun Day on Saturday 14 January and a Try Tag Rugby Taster on Friday 20 January. Spaces for both events are limited and will be booked on a first come, first served basis so don't delay! Click here for more information.

General Reminders
 
French Club (Reception, Y1 & Y2) 
Bonjour! French Club bookings for Summer Term are now open.  Please click here for French Club information and how to book.

Parking at Drop Off and Pick Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic resuming and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.

Coronavirus within school
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, or has one or more of: temperature, continuous cough, loss of sense of smell or taste, please keep them off school for a minimum of three days or until they are better after three days.  Please report all absences to the school office as below.
 

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412 and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick. Absences for sickness will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.  

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form: parents3002@welearn365.com.

Naming Items in school
Please ensure any items brought into school are named so they can be returned to your child if misplaced.  This includes uniform, water bottles, snack and lunch boxes, etc.
