Dear Families

Wow what a week. By now I think you will have all read the news about Mrs Clewley. Hopefully if you had any concerns, questions or wanted to discuss anything at all with our governors you were able to come and speak to them at pick up each evening. However, as has been the case since January, nothing will change in school. We will continue to strive to provide the best education for the children at Alveston and continue to help each child SHINE.
We will do all of this working with you. We always appreciate your feedback and support and we know that working together is always going to ensure the children are at the centre of everything - right where they belong.
It was lovely welcoming so many of you into school for our first Learning Together Time of the year this week. How lovely for the children to celebrate the joy of words with reading in so many different forms with so many of you. Whether reading science vocabulary to match foods they tasted in Year 1 or quizzing on famous authors in Year 5 - there was so much going on! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to be with us, we really do appreciate your time and we know the children love you being here. We look forward to seeing lots of you again for our Harvest Festival in church. Don't forget you can bring donations of food in for the food bank from now too.
Next week is 'Cycle to School Week'. As a huge advocate school for cycling, we would love to encourage lots of children to cycle in next week, join the bicycle bus and change their journey here. It is a joy seeing the Bicycle Bus roll in on a Friday - do get in touch with school if you would like information about the Bicycle Bus and we can pass your details on to our wonderful parents who organise this. Remember we have two bicycle stands for children to store their bikes in for the day if they do cycle in. Good luck!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Harvest Festival Donations

As part of our annual school celebrations for Harvest Festival,  we collect - and are always very grateful for - food donations, which we supply to the Stratford-upon-Avon Food Bank.  These donations are collected and displayed in school and then we transport them to the Food Bank in town in November. This is such an important charity for our community, so please do send your kind donations into school and please accept our hugest thanks in advance. We have provided a list of the foodbank's most needed items below, to help you shop:

  • Tinned meat curry
  • Instant whip
  • Instant mash
  • Shower gel
  • Spray cleaner
  • Washing up liquid
  • Jelly
  • Shampoo
  • Long life fruit juice
  • Savoury snacks
Please note that the above is just a guide and any food or item you provide - particularly long-life products - will always be gratefully received.

Every item you donate gets weighed, sorted and date checked in the Foodbank warehouse. It then gets made up into a parcel and given out at the food bank's distribution sessions or through their delivery service. Every item counts!

Thank you so much for supporting Alveston Primary's efforts in helping people in need this Harvest time.
Harvest Time at Alveston!

This week, the Gardening Club bid farewell to their autumn produce in the most delicious way! Mrs Wilcock treated everyone to a hearty broccoli soup, lovingly made from vegetables grown right here on the school grounds. The children absolutely loved it—especially with a nice slice of warm toast on the side!
Collective Worship

As part of our whole school Collective Worship this week, our Online Safety Committee lead our assembly. They bravely stood in front of the whole school and presented the potential dangers of using the internet. The children acted out two scenarios of what could potentially happen online and how to deal with them.
We learnt together to be SMART!

S is for Safe - Keep your personal information private.
M is for Meet - Never meet anyone you don't know online.
A is for Accepting - Don't click on links or messages, links or photos from people you don't know.
R is for Reliable - If you're ever unsure, always ask a grown up about something.
is for Tell - If something worries you online, always tell a trusted adult right away.

Remember the internet is amazing! You can learn new things, play games and chat to your friends but just remember to be SMART and kind online.
Football Stars!

Year 5 and Year 6 boys and girls teams competed in their first football matches of the year at Holy Trinity Primary School this week. Both teams played phenomenally well showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. Congratulations to the girls who won their match 2-0! We are looking forward to organising more matches in the coming weeks.
Disco Dancers

The Friends of Alveston hosted our very first disco of the year on Friday, and what a disco it was! The Friends hope all your little ones that attended had a wonderful time partying with them! They would like to say a huge thank you to all of their incredible volunteers that made the event such a success. Parents helped set up, tidy up and provided helping hands throughout the event. Friends send their thanks also to the teachers that were able to stay and support the children  - some fantastic dance moves were displayed but to spare their blushes, no names will be mentioned! DJ Dave kindly set up his equipment and gave up his time to play as many of the song requests as he could for the children. We know that this went down a storm! As well as the dancing, we hear that the tuck shops were very popular, helping to keep the children fuelled for the duration.

As a result of this great event, Friends are very excited to announce that the disco raised a whopping £593 for the school! WOW! That's amazing! Thank you everyone! And thank you especially to our amazing Friends.
How to Keep Children Safe this Halloween

Halloween is around the corner and can be an exciting time of year for children, dressing up and going out after dark. But, whilst Halloween is supposed to be spooky, there are some horrors that families will want to avoid. The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) has put together some top tips for a safe Halloween that you can remember for all the right reasons. Learn more here.

We hope you have a safe and spooktacular Halloween!

Over the Autumn and Winter months, the SYDNI Centre in Leamington, will be offering free, fun cookery courses to help you eat for less.

Each session focusses on a tasty, cost effective and nutritious meal. You will either prepare the meal along with their Community Chef, Adam, or you will have the opportunity to watch Adam prepare the dish and be given all the ingredients to make it yourself at home.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
