VE/VJ Day Celebrations
Next week, we will be celebrating Arts Week at Alveston and some elements of this will be focused on marking 80 years since VE and VJ Day. On Friday, children are invited to come to school in red, white and blue clothing. This is to support the Friends for the summer fayre, so please bring a forfeit of sweets on the day. At the end of the day on Friday, we will open the gates a little earlier at 3pm. The children will then come out to sing you some war time songs! The children will then go to their usual home- time lines and be sent to families. You are then invited to take a look at the school mural that will be created over the week - this will be displayed outside.
Year 6 SATS Week
We are incredibly proud of all the Year 6 children for the hard work and determination they showed during their SATS this week. Every single child gave their best effort and approached the tests with maturity and focus. They were absolutely fantastic! A huge well done to all the children!

Bridge the Gap
Year 5 have had a lot of fun building spaghetti truss bridges. It has taken a lot of hard work, determination and team work but they have been very successful. The children are looking forward to developing our skills during Arts Week next week where we will be using a range of tools to cut, measure and attach wooden dowelling together to create wooden truss bridges.
People Who Help Us - the Dentist
This week as part of their topic, 'People Who Help Us', Reception have been exploring the health of their teeth and going to the dentist. The children spoke about their experience at the dentist and some of the things you may see there. They then spoke about healthy foods and "sometimes" foods. The children identified the foods that are healthy and unhealthy for our teeth. They recognised that some foods have sugar in them, and this isn't good for our teeth. All children said we need to brush our teeth twice a day, in the morning and at night.
Exciting Egypt!
On Monday, the children in Year 3 took part in a whole day of exciting and inspirational activities related to their history topic, Ancient Egypt! Lots of experiential learning took place and fun was had all round!
Is your child’s car seat fitted correctly?
Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership is hosting free car seat check and vehicle advice events across Warwickshire from 23 to 30 May 2025.
In partnership with Child Seat Safety, the car seat experts, Road Safety Officers from Warwickshire County Council, and Community Fire Safety Officers from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, members of the public can receive a free child car seat check and vehicle maintenance advice.
Registration is now open for the 11+ test
If you would like your child to be considered for a Year 7 place at a Warwickshire grammar school in September 2026, then please register your child for the 11+ test by the deadline of 4pm on Monday 30 June.
The 11+ test is used to assess whether a child is eligible for a place at one of the county’s grammar schools. The test is open to all children who will be starting secondary school in September 2026 (those currently in Year 5), and registration is now open.
Could you support a local family through tough times?
Home-Start South Warwickshire trains volunteers to support families with children under 5 who are going through difficult times. They still have spaces on their upcoming training course on the 4th June. By giving just a few hours a week, you can offer emotional and practical support to a family in your community. Full training is provided, including some online learning.

General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email
parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).
Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer. Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
parents3002@welearn365.com
