13th December 2024

With nine wonderful Christmas performances this week, the Christmas period has truly begun at Alveston!

We have enjoyed the shared stories of the star who just couldn't shine, the donkey not pleased about their long walk and the cross old lady, annoyed at everyone knocking at her door. With a traditional happy ending, these stories all concluded joyfully with the birth of a special baby, a baby to bring light to the darkness in the world.

Just as Jesus did, our children brought the light into our lives and all shone so brightly! Their singing and their acting also brought such happiness to us all. We have seen new talents uncovered, existing skills strengthened and our children's confidence flourishing.

A very big thank you to everyone involved in making our Christmas performances such a success - the admin team, teaching teams, parents and children and to everyone who came to watch their children shine. As always, the first joy of my Christmas!

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Anne Clewley

Dangerous Parking

Please can we remind parents not to drop off or pick up on Knights Lane. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Knights Lane is becoming almost impassable at times and can feel like a slalom track, weaving in and out of parked cars.  Local residents have been struggling to get on and off of their drives. We've also had reports of parents parking directly opposite the entrance to the football club which causes a dangerous bottleneck. All this added together poses a very real hazard to the local residents, parents and children on foot.  The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
Boundaries and Rules - Free Parent Workshop

We are delighted that the Children and Families Service will be running a free workshop here at Alveston focused on Boundaries and Rules on Wednesday, 15 January 2025 from 12:30 to 14:30.

Being a parent is exciting and rewarding but there are also times when children behave in ways that are a challenge for us. This 2-hour workshop looks at some reasons why children behave the way they do and offers insight and strategies to help guide their behaviour.

This workshop is for parents/carers of children of all ages. It will focus on:

• How and why boundaries support children’s development

• Parenting strategies that can be used to support boundaries such as rules, praise, routines.

• Identify different parenting styles

• Build an awareness of positive parenting and how to implement this in day to day life

• Looking after our selves as parents and carers

This workshop is a general overview and if further support and advice is identified, contacts and referral pathways will be available at the end of the workshop.

You will find more information about this workshop here.

Booking is now open so please book your place here.
Smooth(ie) Operators

Year 1 enjoyed their Design & Technology day on Thursday which involved preparing, tasting and evaluating smoothies! To make the smoothies, we worked in pairs to prepare the fruit by cutting pineapple, banana and strawberries into smaller pieces. We held a fork in the fruit so it was secure and then used a knife to cut the fruit. We then used a juicer to squeeze the juice from oranges and lemons. After that, we taste-tested each of the fruits and drank the juice from the lemon and the orange whilst we evaluated the taste. We watched how the fruits and the juices were mixed together in a blender to make the smoothie. We then got to taste the final smoothie!
Festive Forest School

Last week, Year 1 had a festive Forest School. The children were warmed from the cold chill with warm hot chocolate from the Kelly kettle. Lots of the children helped to 'feed' the fire to enable the water to boil. Some hunted for signs of winter whilst others made their very own nature jingle sticks. The session wouldn't have been complete without a sing a long to 'Jingle Bells!'
Food Footprint

This week, Year 4 embarked on an exciting exploration of where the foods they enjoy at home come from. The children measured distances in centimetres and then skilfully converted them into kilometres, demonstrating some impressive mathematical skills. They amazed us with their knowledge of global locations and were often surprised to discover the far-flung origins of some familiar foods. It was a week full of learning and delightful discoveries!
Christmas Cards

T'is the season to lovingly send Christmas cards...but please can we ensure that they do not contain anything edible. We have noticed that some cards are being sent in with chocolate coins inside. While this is a really lovely gesture, we have to be very careful. There are an increasing number of children in school with a diverse range of food allergies and intolerances so we ask that any gifts in cards are non-edible.

Thank you in advance for helping us to keep our environment safe for all our children.
Christmas Elf (Junior)

Seb, from Year 5, is starring in Elf Jr. the Musical this week, presented by Top Box studios, at the Greig Hall in Alcester. He has been working hard in tech rehearsals all week as part of the ensemble cast and, by the time of reading this, Seb will have performed one show already! He will also be doing a Sunday matinee and an evening performance.

We all wish you lots of luck in all your performances, Seb, and we hope that you enjoy every minute of this experience. Break a leg, as they say (or maybe, actually...don't!?).

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
