News

24th October 2025

We made it - the end of the first half term is here at last! It's been a long one but it has been wonderful. I am so incredibly proud of the children who have worked their socks off, settled amazingly well into their new classes and have produced some stunning work. I have given out more stickers this half term than ever! I love how resilient children are. I should also mention how amazing our staff team are. They work tirelessly to do their best for the children at Alveston. Everyone really has been shining brightly.

Harvest Festival today truly blew me away. It was simply stunning. The walk to church was beautiful with the autumn sun (after the drizzly last few days), kicking leaves and hearing lots of chatter between all the children. The morning sun streaming through the windows in church was glorious. Then, wowsers - the performances were incredible. Every class worked so hard to share something special, from facts to poems, riddles to songs - they truly encapsulated the season. I was, quite literally, moved to tears, as I know lots of you were too. A huge thank you to the children and staff who spent time preparing these to make today what it was and also, a big thank you to the parents who walked with us to church, it makes the experience so much easier having lots of help.

I hope you all have a wonderful, peaceful half term and get lots of rest. It's another long half term again but, it is, THE BEST!

Kind regards

A Big Thank You to the Friends of Alveston!

UKS2 would like to say a huge thank you to the Friends of Alveston for purchasing our brand-new dictionaries! We have really enjoyed using them this week—they’ve already made a big difference to our learning. The new dictionaries have helped us to find meanings more quickly, check our spellings, and explore new vocabulary with ease. Having these fantastic resources in our classrooms has made our work more accessible and enjoyable. Thank you again for your generosity and support!

2025 Christmas Shoebox Appeal!

Once again, Alveston C of E Primary School is proud to support the Teams4U Shoebox Appeal! This week, your child will have brought home a Teams4U leaflet, and in the first week back after half term, we’ll hold a special assembly to share more about the incredible work Teams4U does each year.

Teams4U send gift-filled shoeboxes to children across the globe who are facing hardship due to poverty, disaster, disease, or conflict. One of their charity warehouses is conveniently located nearby, in Evesham.
If you’d like to brighten a child’s Christmas by donating a gift-filled shoebox, please follow the simple instructions in the leaflet sent home. Additional leaflets are available from the school office, and extra labels can be downloaded from the Teams4U website:
http://teams4u.com

Shoeboxes can be prepared as a family or with friends, and don’t need to be costly. Clean, gently used toys from home or charity shop finds are wonderful. If you’re finding it tricky to source a shoebox, we’re able to offer a limited supply of pre-wrapped/special Teams4U boxes, available in the school foyer.

Please send completed shoeboxes into school as soon as possible, with a final deadline of Friday 14th November 2025. Boxes can be left in the school foyer.

Thank you so much for your generous support with this meaningful project — together, we hope to send as many shoeboxes as possible (and beat last years total!).

Wishing you a joyful half term and happy packing!

Mould!

Year 6 have been exploring how mould grows and the different conditions that can affect its growth. Each group chose their own investigation question, made a prediction, and observed their results over two weeks. The children discovered that mould grows best when there is oxygen, darkness, moisture, and a temperature between 5° and 26°C.
Forest School Retrospective!
By Mrs McFeely

Turn back time to the start of term and Year 2’s first Forest School trip of the year — it was a soggy one! We began by embracing the rain, singing a cheerful song: “If all of the raindrops were lemon drops and gum drops, oh what a rain it would beeeeee...” Before long, the sun shone brightly, warming everyone up again.
With the weather on our side, we set off for blackberry picking, painting, and bug hunting! The children discovered lots of creepy crawlies, including a very well-camouflaged grasshopper—can you spot it?—and some impressively large spiders. Well done, Year 2!
Flashback to our very first Forest School session during Ethos Week! Year 3 began with a PEACE-themed Forest School experience. We started with a moment of mindfulness, lying down to practice tree-bathing. It was very relaxing, and once settled, the children noticed the subtle wonders of nature that often go unnoticed—birdsong, the colours around us, and the gentle movement of the trees, to name just a few.
We also learned about the Cross of Nails—a powerful symbol of peace and reconciliation that originated from the ruins of Coventry Cathedral after it was bombed during World War II. Three medieval nails from the cathedral’s roof were forged into a cross, carrying a message of forgiveness. Inspired by this, the children wove their own crosses in the calmness of our forest site. Finally, some children made shelters for our animal friends, thoughtfully considering how to protect them from nature’s elements. It was a wonderful, reflective session full of care and creativity.

Back to "present day" and, dare I say it—we may have saved the best session for last! This week, Year 4's Forest School adventure had a spooky theme that truly captured the children’s imaginations. They worked together to create a huge spider’s web, showcasing fantastic teamwork and creativity. Some of the children chose to make stick mummies, carefully wrapping small branches with wool “bandages,” while others stirred up spooky potions, using lively and imaginative vocabulary to describe their magical concoctions. The potions were completed with a splash of “activator syrup”—beware of the magic! The highlight of the session was our first fire of the year. I was absolutely astounded by the children’s perseverance and skill as they used fire strikers to start and maintain four separate fires throughout the session. They demonstrated excellent safety practices and supported one another by feeding wood and gently blowing to keep the flames alive.
And now for something EXTRA special...

Last weekend, Jess from Year 6 took part in the British Equestrian Vaulting Championships. If you didn't already know (we didn't!), equestrian vaulting is an incredible sport that combines dance and gymnastics on horseback! WOW! It takes agility, balance, and a real bond between vaulter and horse.

Each year, only the top 15 ranked British vaulters in each section, are selected to compete, and Jess was chosen both individually and as part of a squad. Jess came 3rd individually, and her team won their event, becoming British Champions!

We just cannot get over the talent of our Alveston children and the wonderful things that they do, not only at school, but outside of school too. Jess's Mum has told us of her pride in how hard Jess works and how confident she becomes when she is performing in a sport she loves.

Truly amazing, Jess! Congratulations!!! We hope you are as proud of yourself as we all are of you.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
