Evacuated!
Year 6 had a fabulous day out this week at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway! The children enjoyed a steam train ride from Winchcombe to Broadway and back again. On the train they participated in a ‘war-time song’ session and were even tasked with locating and capturing a spy! Back at Winchcombe we heard war stories from Farmer Bill. We went to school and experienced a variety of primary historical artefacts - including toys and clothes. We experienced a black-out air raid and even got the chance to be fire-fighters by playing an exciting team game. The children looked wonderful in their 1940s evacuee costumes and they enjoyed their war-time lunch. The weather turned out to be just glorious. It was a really successful day; full of fun and laughter and happy memories.
Autumn Parents Evening
We are looking forward to seeing you at Parents' Evening on Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th November. The event sheet went out to everyone on 12th October, via the app - this included dates, times and general information regarding when booking opens and what to expect.
Please note that online booking is now live and will close at 16.00 on Friday 10th November.

Collective Worship
Well done to Oscar, Florence, Hannah, Georgia, Jenson and Serena for leading last week’s Year 6 Collective Worship. They planned and delivered an engaging assembly based on the value of ambition. They asked the children what they wanted to be when they are older and had lots of audience participation!
Shoebox Appeal 2023
Our annual shoebox appeal has officially been launched!
Once again, Alveston C of E Primary School will be supporting the Shoebox Appeal. The children have had a special assembly this week to show the amazing work Teams4U does. Teams4U sends gift-filled shoeboxes each year to children around the world who are in need; affected by poverty, disaster, disease or war. One of it’s charity warehouses is very local to us in Evesham.
If you feel you would like to bring joy to a child this Christmas by sending a gift-filled shoebox, please follow the instructions provided in the Teams4U leaflet that has been sent home with your child this week. Extra leaflets can be found by the school office and extra labels can be downloaded from the Teams4U webpages here: http://teams4u.com
Shoeboxes can be made as a family or with a friend and it doesn’t need to be expensive. Clothes or toys grown out of at home (as long as they are clean) or charity shop finds are perfect.
Completed shoeboxes can be stacked in the school foyer. Please can these be sent into school as soon as possible but no later than Friday 17th November 2023.
Many thanks for your support with this worthwhile cause; we hope to send as many as possible.
Happy half term packing!
Mrs McFeely
Celebrating our Published Authors
Last year's Year 4's (now Year 5) wrote diary entries of their choice based on The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. We are thrilled that 12 of our children have had their work published in a new book 'The Incredible Diary of UK Legends'. We know our children are amazing writers but it is wonderful for them to feel the excitement and success of being published authors. Who knows, this could be just the start of their authoring journey?!
Gardener’s Corner
The gardening club have been very busy over this half term, digging a new soft fruit bed, collecting seeds for planting next spring and getting our beautiful orchard garden ready for winter.
Our biggest challenge has been turning a small strawberry bed into something much bigger where we will be able to harvest a range of soft fruits next year, unless the birds get there first! Gardening club have worked relentlessly, digging heavy ground and removing a multitude of weeds. It has been a tremendous team effort with everyone showing so much determination to get the job done before the weather changes.
Gardening club will start up again in the spring when we can look forward to planting seeds, preparing beds for a new growing season and continuing to enjoy lots of gardening chat!
Gone, but not for long!
It is with great sadness that I announce we will be missing our lovely Mrs Newitt for the next few weeks as she has been called for jury duty. Assigned to a case which could last until the beginning of December, Mrs Newitt started her duty on Monday this week. Lucky for us the case was adjourned early on Wednesday, so she popped back to school to see everyone during the afternoon and to support the team. I am sure you too will miss Mrs Newitt over the next few weeks, but we will look forward to welcoming her back for her favourite time of year!
We are also sad to say that when we return after the half term holiday, Mrs McFeely will only be with us for one more week. With her last day at school brought forward to Friday 10th November, we would like to wish Mrs McFeely all the love and luck in the world as she starts her maternity leave for the birth of her third baby. No-one knows if this will be a little brother or a sister for Penelope and Felicity, but we cannot wait to find out and have a little cuddle! Mrs Musk and Miss Wheatley will be covering the teaching in Year 1 until Mrs McFeely returns.
It will not be the same without you both - hurry back!

General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. When using the car park, we ask all parents to kill their speed and consider the safety of our children and other car park users. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians. We do appreciate time is precious, particularly in the mornings with everyone wanting to get to work, however we ask everyone coming to school by car to consider the safety of our community at all times. If you have any concerns about road safety, please do let us know at
parents3002@welearn365.com.
