News

28th June 2024

Each day I see our vision and values in action at Alveston, but some weeks I am surrounded by examples which make my heart truly sing. This was one of those weeks! Reviewing the progress all our children have made this academic year and reading their reports, it is very clear how we are living and breathing our vision and values. Every child has been shining in their own way and each of our values are threaded through those 211 reports. It is wonderful to be reminded of all the fabulous things our children have done, of the amazing progress they have made with their learning and the incredible growth in their characters.

The week has been full of yet more ways to SHINE, such as children taking part in athletics events and a number of school trips. As I am writing this, our Year 6 children have just finished performing their Leaver’s Play to the rest of the school. Whilst I could not hear the play - I'm saving myself for the performance on Monday! - I can hear the whoops of delight and loud clapping of appreciation. The sun may have disappeared, but Alveston is still shining brightly!

Whatever you are doing this weekend, enjoy!

Reinventing the Wheel...

Year 2 have been busy working on their DT project, wheels and axles. In this lesson, the children created their own rotating axle, fixed it to an axle holder and then they attached wheels. Next up, they will design their own vehicle!
Online Safety Week

This week, Year 4 has been learning about online safety, focusing on critically evaluating what they see and hear online. The students developed top tips for online safety and used their computing skills to create PowerPoint presentations to share with each other. Additionally, they participated in a KS2 assembly led by the Online Safety Committee and Mrs. Newitt, which helped them understand the dangers of the online world. It has been a valuable week of learning, equipping our students with essential skills to navigate the internet safely.

Check back next week to see what other year groups got up to...

KS2 Athletics  - Track Events

This week, our Key Stage 2 children participated in a track athletics event against other Stratford schools. We were incredibly impressed by their sportsmanship as they not only cheered for their own team but also encouraged and supported other participants from the Stratford community. All our children showcased remarkable speed and effort. We are proud to highlight the following students who placed in their races:

  • Edward – 2nd place in the Year 3 Long Distance
  • Oliver – 4th place in the Year 4 Long Distance
  • Henry - 3rd place in the Year 5 Long Distance
  • William – 3rd place in the Year 6 Long Distance
  • Chloe – 4th place in the Year 6 Long Distance
  • George – 2nd place in the Year 6 Sprint
A big thank you and well done to everyone that took part and showcased the talent at Alveston Primary so brilliantly!
Super Swimmer!

Last weekend, Freya, from Year 3, competed in the Mike Wardle Sprints for Stratford Sharks. Freya put her skills to the test in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly and achieved not 1, not 2 but 3 silver medals!!! WOW! These were Freya's first ever swimming medals so she was understandably very excited! It was a real treat to get to see these medals during Shine Time this week. Freya shared her ambition for the Gold medals next time too...watch out Sharks! Very well done, Freya!

Attendance Letters

May we offer our sincere apologies for not getting the attendance letters out for last half term. I know you will have missed them!

Our Eco Committee have been true courageous advocates and challenged all the staff to do their part to reduce paper usage in school. As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, we planned to send attendance reports to parents and our children's school reports via email to reduce paper usage by approximately 4000 sheets of paper each year.

We have been working hard on this and we are now ready to go! On Monday 1st July we will send out your child's attendance report by email. This is an important email, as it will act as a dry run for the end of year reports, which will be sent on Friday 5th July. It is important you let us know by 8am on Tuesday 2nd July, if you do not receive the email on Monday or if you have trouble opening the link. This will give us time to resolve any glitches ready for Friday.

We would also welcome any feedback about the format of the attendance reports, so please do let us know!

PCSO Presence

Some of you may have noticed our lovely PCSO, Faye Brown, on Knights Lane on Friday morning. She has kindly agreed to come along and ensure that all remains safe and well on the roads around school. Do say hello to Faye if you see her!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
