News

9th February 2024

This half term seems to have disappeared in a blur - I cannot believe we are at the holiday already! However long a half term is, there are always indicators that we are getting to the end. Whether 7 weeks or just 5, children and staff are ready for the break, looking forward to a more relaxed routine.
The half term has been jam packed with fabulous teaching, learning and events. In amongst so many highlights, there will always be low points for adults and children in our community ... perhaps a fall out with a friend, a tricky piece of learning, ill health or a day too full to stop and think clearly. I often say to our team, on a difficult day, do your best to end it with a positive. As a result, your last thought before you leave the building, leads you into your downtime with a smile and the space to enjoy it. Sharing positive thanks or praise with another is a simple and effective way to do this.  I was delighted to find Year 3 are doing this too - ending the day sharing their kind words for their classmates. It really does help to share the joy, consign the sadness to the past and to light up the moments ahead.
To follow my own advice, as we end this half term, I would like to thank you all for sharing your own joy and excitement for the new playground with me.  Seeing children and adults alike delight in their play, reminded me why this is the best job in the world! Thank you.
Whatever your holiday routine looks like, I wish you a peaceful and restful one. I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 19th February.
With very best wishes,
Anne Clewley

Online Safety Week

To coincide with Safer Internet Day on 6th February, Alveston has had a very busy Online Safety Week, with lots of excellent work and awareness-raising being done. Year 2 read the story 'The internet is like a puddle'. They then learnt about their digital footprint and how to stay safe when creating work. Finally, they took a quiz on Purple Mash about staying safe online.

Please come and take a look at our next newsletter to find out what other year groups have been up to during Online Safety Week...
Football Fantastic!

Harvey-James and Elliot have some exciting news to share with school. They have made it through to the Cup Final for the Evesham Ambassador League in football!!! They had to play several games of football against different teams and win every game to get to this point. They will now play Drakes Broughton in a cup final in May. This is such a great achievement and we're so proud of them! Very well done!
And the Bake Sale winners are....

.....drum roll, please......................................it's Year 5!!! Year 5 have gone and done it! Big congratulations to you on your baking mastery and selling prowess. You've done so well. The winners are now the proud owners of a Bake Sale Cup, cookie cutters to help them continue their baking journey aaaaaand a "golden hour" in the playground, with the new equipment all to themselves!

But please, please, no one despair - I have it on good authority that it was a very close-run thing and that all year groups did exceptionally well. The sales raised a total of £1300...which roughly translates to 1300 cakes purchased and eaten! Wow! Thank you to everyone who contributed by baking and buying the cakes.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the Friends of Alveston for their organisation of such a brilliant event and such a successful Bake Off series. Thank you!
Netball Network

This week, some of our Year 5 students headed off to the netball courts at Warwick Schools Foundation with other schools from Stratford. The children were able to practise their skills on the court by completing some training drills with a netball coach and then got the chance to use them playing against other schools.

It was a wonderful opportunity for some children who have not played netball before, but wanted to give it a go, as well as some more experienced players. Everyone represented Alveston with pride and we in turn were very proud of Isabelle, Jake, Willow, Yaseen, Kiki, Seb, Jack and Harry. Well done everyone!

Staff Announcement

It is with great sadness that I write to announce this summer, the wonderful Mrs Quainton Stubbs will be retiring. Not only will we lose a fabulous SENDCo, we will also lose a dear friend and colleague. Having personally worked with Mrs Quainton Stubbs for seven of the last eight years, across two schools, I cannot imagine Alveston without her.

A teacher for 38 years, of which four have been at Alveston, Mrs Quainton Stubbs has decided now is her time to look forward to her next adventure. This has been a really tricky decision for her - she would dearly love to see all the children and families she works with through to their next stage of education.

Mrs Quainton Stubbs has been very kind when considering her resignation and given us much more notice than is required. We will do our very best to recruit before the end of the summer, however we know most great SENDCos would not want to leave their children mid-year. If required, Ruth has agreed to continue to work with her replacement for the first half term of 2024 / 2025 to support a comprehensive hand over.

I know I speak for us all when I say Mrs Quainton Stubbs will be missed, not just by the Alveston A Team, but also by our entire community.

With her husband already retired, we know there are fabulous adventures ahead for them both and I would like to take this opportunity to wish them all the very best for the future.

British Science Week

We will be celebrating all things Science in school from Monday 11th March to Friday 15th March to coincide with British Science week. We are looking for talented parents/relatives from a Science background who would be available to give our Science week an extra burst of excitement. If you have a spare half hour, we would be delighted if you can help. It might be that you are available to talk about your career in assembly or participate in a question-and-answer session with your child's class. Please email Mrs Rogers, Science Lead, via the parents3002@welearn365.com for further information.
Pupils Providing Community and Charity Support

Two of Alveston's children, McKenzie and Brooklyn, have made the amazing decision to donate over 30 inches of their hair to the Little Princess Trust.  The Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. They also fund childhood cancer research searching to find kinder and more effective treatments.

McKenzie and Brooklyn will be having a big haircut at the end of March and are hoping to raise enough money to cover the cost of making at least 1 wig.

You can support this fabulous cause and donate to their JustGiving page by clicking here.

JustGiving sends your donation straight to Little Princess Trust and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.

Thank you for your support!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Coronavirus within School
If your child tests positive for coronavirus, please keep them at home for three days or until they are better after three days. Please report all absences to the school office as below.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
