News

14th June 2024

Since Thursday 6th, each time I have paused and let my mind stop whirring, my thoughts have been drawn back to the sad events which unfolded on the Greek island of Symi. The death of Dr Michael Moseley has had such an incredible impact on so many people. All over the country, many are feeling a deep sadness for the loss of a man, who we felt we knew so well. He leaves the most amazing legacy and as a man of great integrity, a positive mark on the world. His death is a reminder to not only live well but to also live every day as if it's your last. Dr Michael Moseley was a force for good, let us aspire to be a positive force in our communities.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family as they navigate their loss. They are also with all our families, who may be dealing with a loss of  their own, or remembering a loss from their past.
Whatever you are doing this weekend, I wish you love and peace, health and happiness.

Forest School Fun For Everyone!

This week Reception were wowed when they visited Forest School. After not visiting for a few weeks, they were overjoyed to see the tall grass (it was taller than them and almost as tall as Mrs Newitt) and fully bloomed trees - it was truly 'wow'! The children became beady-eyed for their scavenger hunt so they could look really closely to spy all the changes.

Year 4 enjoyed an exciting adventure at Forest School. The students explored the outdoors, discovering various natural materials like grass, flowers, and tree bark to use as drawing tools. They also completed a fun treasure hunt and revisited the wildflowers they had planted earlier in the year, observing their growth and beauty. It was a wonderful experience that combined creativity, exploration and a deeper connection with nature.

Whole school assembly

This week, our whole school assembly focused on the important road works taking place on Knights Lane to make it safer for us to walk to Loxley Road, by installing a pavement and lights. During the assembly, the children engaged in a thoughtful discussion about the safety equipment used on construction sites and the potential dangers, including noise. To bring this to life, the children participated in a fun experiment to see if they could shout the word “digger” at a greater volume than the loudest machinery on Knights Lane. Excitingly, they succeeded, reaching an impressive 104 decibels! It was an informative and interactive session that highlighted the significance of these improvements for our community's safety.

Year 6 Boys Football

This week, the Year 6 boys competed in their final football festival at Alveston as they prepare to move onto high school. During the festival involving 10 Warwickshire schools, the boys placed 4th within their group. They demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork in their final matches and have made notable progress within the year, all thanks to the feedback and support of Coach Tom. We look forward to their continued growth and success in the future.

Read All About It!

For some time now, we have been moving more and more of our communication into the newsletter. Following feedback from parents, we are continuing to streamline how we communicate with our families. We will now aim to add most news about events past, present and future to the newsletter. This will mean, if you ever want to check something, or you are worried you might have missed it, you will have less places to search. Typing in key words into the search bar will bring up newsletters where they have been mentioned. At the moment, Event Sheets will continue to be sent via the app. We would love all families to read the newsletters, not least because they may see more of what their children have been up to in school, or read about special mentions for their children that are not always shared on Seesaw.
The newsletter comes out every term time Saturday lunchtime. So, if you want to know what is going on and you hate to miss out - make sure you find a moment to read the newsletter!

Please do continue to send us feedback on how we can improve our communication as a whole and our newsletter. All comments which can help us improve what we do are warmly welcomed!
Staff Announcement

It is with a mixture of sadness and joy that I announce the retirement of our wonderful Mrs Fielding. Her time at Alveston spans over 23 years, but this won’t be the first time she has left us…!

Originally starting as a TA in 2001 working in Year 5/6, Mrs Fielding first left Alveston to complete her teacher training degree at the University of Warwick. Once qualified, she returned to Alveston in September 2005 and worked as a teacher here for many years. During this time, she trained to be a Forest School Leader and helped to establish the site we proudly use today. Every tree, shrub and plant has been planted under her leadership of this area. Mrs Fielding left Alveston again in 2017 to take up a position in another school but returned in 2018. She has delivered many roles in that time as a class teacher, cover teacher, intervention teacher and continuing to lead our Forest School provision. Having taught across the school from Reception through to Year 6, she is an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable teacher. Mrs Fielding has attempted to retire before, but we were delighted that even though she wanted to step back from teaching, she stayed to support Alveston and our children as a TA and as our Forest School Lead. She has also delivered our gardening club in recent years and led the school to victory in last year’s Stratford in Bloom competition. Having attempted to leave us many times, now is finally her time to retire from school life. I am however thrilled that Mrs Fielding has agreed to pop back and see us from time to time! There will always be a line of children and staff looking forward to welcoming her back with open arms.

I am sure you will join me in wishing Mrs Fielding all the very best for a wonderful retirement and an exciting new chapter.
End of Year Parent Reports

You may remember our ECO Committee were keen to reduce the amount of paper we use in school. They wrote to all staff with a wish list to reduce its use to help our planet. In addition to reducing paper used in the classroom, we pledged to reduce all paper use.

As a result, our school reports will now be sent digitally on Friday 5th July 2024. To ensure you receive your child's End of Year school report, you will need to ensure we have your correct email address. The report will be sent to the email address we have on file for both mum and dad. If you know your email needs updating, or you would like to amend your contact list, please make you sure let the office team know on parents3002@welearn365.com by Friday 21st June.
Don't forget....school photos!

The school photographer will be in school on Friday 21st June to take the class group photographs and the Year 6 leavers individual photographs. All children should wear their school uniform to school that day. Please ensure year 6 children have a green school jumper in school on this day. Any questions, please contact the office on parents3002@welearn365.com.

Charitable Donation from our Community

Huge congratulations and a massive thank you to Gabrielle (Rupert from Reception's Mummy) for running the Two Castles on 9th June! Gabrielle ran exceptionally well and completed the race in an amazing time, raising an incredible £400 which she has generously donated to the school. We are so proud and grateful for her dedication and support! The Two Castles Run is without doubt one of the most beautiful 10km runs in the country. Starting in the majestic grounds of Warwick Castle, the route winds through the stunning Warwickshire countryside, finishing in the medieval grounds of Kenilworth Castle.

Thank you, Gabrielle, for your incredible achievement and support!

Inside Connect4Health's latest newsletter, you’ll discover helpful tips and advice from The Child Accident Prevention Trust as they raise awareness this Child Safety Week. Most accidents are easily preventable and they aim to give parents/carers the confidence to reduce risks and keep their children safe.

In June, C4H are raising awareness for World Continence Day, in particular children’s continence. They have helpful resources for parents to access including online videos, the ERIC website and online continence workshops delivered directly to parents.

C4H are also celebrating Learning Disability Week this month - dispelling myths and signposting additional support for families who have a child with a learning disability.

School Readiness Health Questionnaire

C4H's School Readiness Questionnaire has now launched and they would like to encourage all parents/carers who have a child starting school in September to complete this online. General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
