What a fabulous week we have had!
Our first full Arts Week since 2019 was packed full of exciting activities for all our children. In addition to drawing, painting, textile and collage work, the children sang, danced, played Taiko drums and hula hooped their way through the week. With the Platinum Jubilee as the theme to all our activities, the children were immersed in this once in a lifetime celebration of the Queen’s 70-year reign.
We were delighted to welcome many visitors and friends into school once again. Specialists in their field, the children enjoyed talks and performances from
- Wildlife volunteer Cyril Bennis, who has been caring for the Queen’s swans in Stratford for over 40 years
- RSC costumier and parent Sophie Titchmarsh
- Taiko drums master Teresa
- The Orchestra of the Swan with Caroline and Shola
- Warwickshire Music’s Oboe teacher Chloe
- Escape Arts, and
- Juanita, who taught our children to hula hoop!
Our thanks go to everyone who supported our children this week, for enriching their learning and their experience of the Jubilee and Arts Week. Particular thanks to Mrs McFeely who worked so hard over the term to deliver this masterpiece of a week for all our children. Well done Mrs McFeely – it was a triumph!
Mrs McFeely will put together a full report of the class activities for our newsletter after half term. Below you will find a small selection of photos from the week with more to follow after half term.
The grand finale of our week was our ‘Jubilee Celebration for the Generations’. The Alveston Family, whilst still together in spirit, have been kept apart physically over the last 2 years. With the Platinum Jubilee being a once in a lifetime event, we wanted to put together a celebration which delivered a memorable experience for all and to bring all our family back together again. We promised the event would go ahead, whatever the weather and after such a grey and wet week, how wonderful that our prayers were answered and we enjoyed wall to wall sunshine! Inviting parents, grandparents and siblings we were absolutely delighted to be joined by so many and to meet three and four generations of our children’s families.
We started the afternoon with a performance from each of our 7 classes. With fabulous song choices including Platinum Jubilee, Trooping the Colour, Dancing Queen, We will Rock You and All You Need is Love, we were overjoyed when our families joined in with the singing! Our youngest children, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, then performed their dance routine choreographed by Mrs Rogers. They were followed by our Young Voices Choir, comprised of children from Years 3 to 6 and led by Mrs Newitt, who sang the Pop Medley they performed as part of the World’s Largest School Choir.
The final performance was a ‘last night of the Proms’ style medley, singing together as one. Young and old alike singing with passion and waving their flags in a sea of red, white and blue, culminating in a rousing rendition of God Save The Queen.
We finished the afternoon with a family picnic, which was glorious in the sunshine.
During the afternoon we presented each child a Platinum Jubilee commemorative tin of sweets from school and with the wonderful book ‘Queen Elizabeth’ gifted to primary school children from the Department of Education.
As we sat in the shade and watched our children playing together, running and squealing with delight and our families mingling and chatting, we reflected on the final act of this half term. It was everything we had dreamed and planned for and more!
Thank you to everyone in our Alveston Family for helping to deliver the most magical and memorable day for our children. Alveston, you rock!
I would like to finish with a toast to the future, to the health and happiness of the Alveston Family, because together we really do SHINE, oh so brightly!
Enjoy the half term break and I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Tuesday 7th June.

In the last year we have set up two uniform suppliers SummitGB (shop in Stratford) and Brigade (online business based in Coventry) alongside our existing offering. For more information, please visit our website by clicking here. We have been contacted by Brigade to let us know their last order date is 22nd July for guaranteed delivery before September.
