10th February 2023
Love is in the air at Alveston! With our Valentine’s Discos on Friday, the school was alive with excited chatter. For our younger children, it was their very first disco at school, after school hours! We haven’t done this since 2019 and it is wonderful to have them back in the calendar.
Valentine’s Day is when we celebrate love and the loved ones in our lives. However, we may not always think further than those we wish to send a card to or accompany to the disco. With our wonderful community spirit at Alveston, we like to think about this celebration more broadly. There are lots of ways we can show our love to others in our community and in doing so, we can make others feel good. When we smile broadly and greet someone warmly, that person feels good. When we say something encouraging to someone else, that person feels good and when we do something that is helpful to other people, they feel good.
On Friday morning we celebrated a wonderful set of Stars, so many of them awarded for being wonderful role models within our community, for being kind and therefore loving to their peers.
So, this Valentine’s Day (and disco!) when we think of Valentine’s Day, or we see pictures of a heart or heart shaped balloons, I hope we can all say and do encouraging and kind things for other people and spread the love more widely.
Whatever you are doing this weekend, I hope it is filled with love.

Child Friendly Warwickshire Competition...continued!
Calling all young-change makers at Alveston CofE Primary School!
Last week, I told you all about the ‘Child Friendly Warwickshire' competition.
Child Friendly Warwickshire believe being ‘child friendly’ means that every child and young person should be Happy, Healthy, Skilled, Safe and Heard.
This week I wanted to briefly remind you all that Child Friendly Warwickshire want to hear your ideas for making the county more child friendly before 27 February - and you could win £2,500 for our school in the process!
This week we have also been given a link to Child Friendly Warwickshire's official website so that you can find out even more detail about this exciting competition!

We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic resuming and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
