9th June 2023

Summer has definitely arrived in Stratford this week! What a wonderful way to start the second half of the summer term! Sparkling as brightly as the sun, the children have settled back into the routines of school.
The children are also doing a fabulous job working on our Stratford in Bloom entry. Under the careful leadership of Mrs Fielding, they are working wonders in our orchard, developing sustainable garden projects. Thank you to everyone who has answered our calls for support for the project, it has been much appreciated. With the summer sunshine and new growth all around school, you cannot help but feel joy and hope for the final six weeks of this academic year. It is a jam packed half term too, full of memory making events for all our children. Let's make the most of it!
Wishing you all a wonderful, rest-filled, glorious weekend,
Anne Clewley

Food...and Thought!

Year 4 recently designed and created their own Greek salads - yum! The class enjoyed eating them before lunch and went onto evaluating them against their success criteria.

Below you can see Year 6 hosting their half-termly collective worship this week. The theme was Curiosity. Isabella, Oscar P, Sam, Beatrice, Finn and Zak engaged the audience by playing a game of charades and riddles. They invited children up to participate and had the whole school guessing. Well done for demonstrating what curiosity is in such an entertaining way!

Books!

Recently, Year 5 and 6 were treated to an impromptu visit and workshop with author Tim Tilley...

Harklights is a magical story celebrating family, friendship and the natural world, filled with a message of hope for our times. I sat and read it in one sitting on a sunny Saturday morning and it was an absolute delight! A wonderful book for children to read or a special bedtime tale from an adult. However, beware! You may get orders for scrambled egg and mushrooms after reading it!

Witchstorm is a hunt for lost witch treasure, in an enchanting adventure story of storms, spells and the magic of the natural world. Having enjoyed Harklights so much, I am really looking forward to reading this!

The books are available in school if you would like to purchase them. To find out more about the author, you can visit Tim's website here.
Alveston Needs More Bloom!

Work is well underway here at Alveston on our Stratford in Bloom 2023 entry!

Our Forest School Lead and keen gardener, Mrs Fielding, is looking for support to help bring some colour to the garden. We have veg a-plenty but we are definitely lacking in some eye-catching flowers. If you can help us by providing any summer bedding plants, or any other items below, please do contact school via admin3002@welearn365.com. Alternatively, items can be left just inside the football gate at either drop-off or pick-up and they will be collected from there. Thank you in advance for all your support!

We would be very grateful for the following items:
  • Summer bedding plants
  • Bee-loving plants - lavender, nepeta, verbena
  • Old pots
Judges will be on site on Tuesday 4th July and, with your kind donations, we'd love Alveston Primary to be in the running for a prize.
