April 2025

11th April 2025

Well, we have made it to the end of the term. It feels like it has been a long one, but wow - what a lovely one! Alveston children really have been shining so brightly.

It has been an absolute joy to welcome you all in for their class assemblies so you can have a little taste of what the children have been doing in their classrooms this term. These assemblies do make spring so special, seeing the children's confidence and joy increasing.

We have celebrated Science week, Shakespeare week, Online Safety week, held our first TT Rockstars Battle day, World Book day, launched the Bicycle Bus, hosted the RSC twice, launched school composting and sang Easter songs at Tiddington Court for the first time ever. I'm sure there is so much more too! This is all in addition to our usual lessons and learning. The staff at Alveston really are incredible. They strive daily to give your children the most exceptional learning experiences they can. However, as a teaching team, we are so grateful that the children eat up and relish all of those chances. So children - go you!! Enjoy every moment of your break, it is much deserved.

We very much look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday 28th April.

Kindest regards

Jess Newitt

Musical Interlude!

Jake and Sammy, from Year 6, accompanied the children and staff into Collective Worship on Friday morning by playing Seven Nation Army, by The White Stripes. It was such an upbeat start to the day. Thanks boys!
VE Day and VJ Day Celebrations

As this year marks 80 years since these really important events that marked the end of World War 2 - we want to mark these in school. However, with VJ Day falling in the summer holidays and VE Day at the start of such a short half term we have decided to coincide our Arts Week with this and have this as a theme for some of our work. Arts Week is the last week of next half term - May 19th - 23rd. Please keep your diaries free for half an hour on Friday 23rd May from 3.00 - 3.30pm. On this day, the children will come out a little earlier and we will sing some glorious war tunes for you. You will then be invited into school to see the art work that we have worked on over the week. We are hoping the work can be kept in school as a lasting tribute for this significant year.
Year 1 have been looking at toys both from today and from the past. They compared the similarities and differences toys have, including how they move and the materials they are made from. The children learned that toys from the past are mainly made from wood, metal and fabric and that today most toys are made from plastic. Toys today also require a power source such as a battery or a remote control whereas in the past, toys were often wind-up or pull-along.

During Art this week, Year 1 also worked as a whole class to create a 3D sculpture. They rolled pieces of newspaper to create long tubes. They then taped and folded them to create a 3D sculpture to look like a spider which was inspired by the artist Louis Bourgeois.

Easter Fun at Forest School

Reception have been getting into the Easter story by creating their own Easter crosses using natural materials at Forest School. The children worked collaboratively, sharing ideas, collecting objects and deciding how to bring their cross together. What beautiful weather we were blessed with for the lesson too!

Let There Be Light!

Year 4 have been undertaking an awesome DT project to design and build their own torches. They started by reviewing existing products and thinking about different user types. They then worked on designing their own torches, carefully considering what materials they could use. They combined this with their knowledge of circuits from their Science lessons, before assembling their torches. There were hurdles along the way but, in the end, everyone produced a working torch and all were completely unique! Amazing engineering in action - very well done Year 4!
Year 5 have been looking at mammal gestation periods. They created graphs to show the different gestation periods and analysed the data to look at the patterns and links.

Year 2 enjoyed a sunny exploration of Forest School this afternoon. They undertook sampling in different areas of the Forest School site, using maps to locate contrasting areas. They then looked closely with magnifying glasses at what was in their hoop and the results were fascinating - all sorts of mini-beasts hiding in the grasses! We finished up with a game of "1,2,3 Where are you?!".

Champions FA Cup Final 2025 Winners!

Take a look at this fabulous photo of the U9 Knights team, representing Stratford Town Football Club. Max, Harry, Jude and Edward (and their team mates) won their league final with a score of 3-1 against GNP Sports Junior U9 Lions.  The boys are rightfully very proud of their trophy...because it wasn't just any trophy, it was the Champions FA Cup Final 2025 trophy!!! Amazing stuff! Well done!
Team Players

A great first outing in the sun for the Year 6 Boys football team playing Bishopton Primary on a tricky, small pitch. A fantastic team effort saw the boys grow in confidence and eventually score one of the best goals in the game, from Ollie Walton. However, Player of the Match goes to Yaseen for a string of world class saves and a brilliant supportive attitude. Finally, special mention to Jack L for playing in his first ever football match and showing, with a bit of confidence and self belief, you can achieve anything!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
