News

28th November 2025

Wow - Alveston has been shining this week! I have never been so proud to be part of this school and I am so incredibly proud to write my first newsletter as the Headteacher of Alveston! Your children were beacons of joy as they welcomed other Headteacher candidates and, unsurprisingly, they too were incredibly keen to become Head!

I am truly delighted to be taking on the role of Headteacher following my time as Acting Head, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the warmth, kindness, and support you have shown me. It is a privilege to continue leading such a wonderful school, and I want to reassure you that there will be no major changes ahead. Any developments we do introduce will be thoughtful, gradual, and always in the best interests of our children and community. Our school is already a special place, and I look forward to building on its many strengths together.

Whatever happens with the weather on Monday, our 'Shine Bright Christmas Night' is sure to be a beautiful evening. Please do come and join us as our first ever Christmas tree on the playground is lit up. The Friends have worked so hard to create an event for everyone to enjoy. Come and sing carols, get festive and, don't forget that everyone can wear their Christmas jumpers on Monday with their uniform.

Have a lovely weekend.

Jess Newitt

Headteacher

IMPORTANT MESSAGE - Returning Sports Kit

If your child is representing Alveston in a sporting event, please ensure you wash the kit and return it to school as soon as possible after the event so that other children have a fresh kit to wear. This week we didn't have enough kit for our football matches on Thursday, which was a real shame for those participating, so please do ensure you return the kit promptly. Thank you for your support with this.

Online Safety Committee

As part of our whole school Online Safety Week last week, the Online Safety Committee led our Collective Worship to warn us about the dangers of phishing. They told us the signs to look out for and how easy it can be to be drawn into a phishing scam.

Some key takeaways were:
  • Never click on links you don't know
  • Only talk to people you know online
  • Create a username and use an emoji or avatar for your display (never your full name)
  • Always tell a trusted adult if there is something worrying you online
And remember: always be kind and be SMART online.
Highlights from Online Safety Week

As part of Online Safety week, the children in Reception were introduced to the computer room. The children explored some of the equipment, trying on the headphones and moving the mouse. The class spoke about the internet and all the amazing things it can do to help us learn. In the classroom, the children read the story of Smartie the Penguin. Smartie used his tablet to explore his favourite things online. He soon found out that some things online are not safe and are not truthful. He always asked for help and never tried to fix it himself. The children in Reception will start to spend some more time in the computer room going forwards.

Year 1 looked at ways the internet can be dangerous. If something was to worry us and was unfamiliar then we must remember to:
STOP what we are doing online;
CLOSE what we were playing/reading and;
TELL a trusted adult.

Year 3 learnt more about what they should and shouldn't do when using the world wide web. They focused on building good digital footprints and doing so safely. They then looked at ways they can find more reliable information online.

Year 6 explored how they might share personal information online. They also discussed what happens to photos once they are shared and they considered ways to keep control of our own images. The children then created their own posters to show what they had learned.
3D Maps

Year 2 had an amazing art lesson this week, building on last week’s learning about map-making. The children created their own 3D maps using a wonderful range of materials including wool, lollipop sticks, feathers and card. They thought carefully about their design choices, selecting the best materials to highlight different features. Each map was completely unique, and we were so impressed by their creativity, focus and imagination!

Netball Victory!

Alveston secured an impressive 14–3 win against Bridgetown in what was not only a fantastic performance, but also our first ever netball match! The team played with confidence, energy, and great teamwork — especially remarkable given we’ve only had a few practice sessions so far.

Every player contributed to the result, showing real determination and spirit on court. A huge well done to the whole squad!

We’re already looking forward to a rematch with Bridgetown in the coming weeks. Well done, Alveston!

Speed Stacking!

Twelve enthusiastic Year 4 pupils proudly represented our school at the School Games Speed Stacking Competition, held at Leamington’s Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre. The children have been practising every lunchtime for the past few weeks, building their skills, confidence, and teamwork. Their hard work certainly paid off as they eagerly demonstrated their speed stacking talents, competing against pupils from other schools and embracing the friendly, energetic atmosphere of the event. Alongside the main competition, the children enjoyed taking part in a variety of fun activities on offer throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of their effort, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. Well done to all of our Year 4 competitors!

We await the results with bated breath.......watch this space!
Year 5 & 6 Football Fun!

Our Year 5 and 6 boys’ and girls’ football teams took to the pitches at Alveston this week for a match against Bridgetown. Despite the final scores not going in our favour, every player showed fantastic determination, teamwork, and resilience from start to finish. The teams worked incredibly hard and still managed to have plenty of fun—even as the light faded and the games became trickier to see! Their positive attitude and commitment were a real standout. A big thank you to Miss Wright for her support and coaching, to all the parents who helped set up the pitches, and a special shout-out to Liam’s dad for refereeing the boys match. Well done to all our players for representing the school so brilliantly!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
