Forest School Fun Times!
Year 4 had a totally bee-u-tiful day visiting Forest School recently! They enjoyed some peaceful tree-bathing under the lush canopies, which was a perfect way to soak in nature’s calm energy. The children also got creative by making their own woolly bees, wrapping colorful wool around pine cones — and guess what? A real bee even buzzed by to join in on the fun! As if that wasn’t enough, we spotted some lizards hiding quietly under logs and caught glimpses of beautiful orange-tip butterflies fluttering by. There was so much awe and wonder as we explored how much the site has matured and bloomed since our last visit. We even spotted a group of trees that looked like spooky Halloween decorations — but it wasn’t spiders to blame! Turns out, an ermine moth caterpillar takeover created those ghostly webs. Luckily, the trees will recover; those clever caterpillars spin webs to stay safe from flying predators. What a buzzing day full of discovery and nature magic!
Year 6 spent a fantastic afternoon at Forest School full of fun and skills. They proved to be fire-lighting experts, successfully starting and keeping four open fires going just right for toasting marshmallows until perfectly charcoaled! Others hammered nails into wooden log slices to create clever VE Day poppy designs, weaving wool around the nails with care and creativity. To finish, they experimented with cyanotype printing—gathering interesting natural treasures, pressing them, then placing them on special paper for the sun to work its magic. After washing, the results were truly striking and unique. Some also put their knot-tying and den-building skills to the test by erecting their own shelters with friends. All in all, a fantastic afternoon full of learning, creativity, and teamwork!
Come Dine With Me!
As part of their Design and Technology lessons, the Year 6 children took part in an exciting cooking project entitled, ‘Come Dine With Me’. Working collaboratively in groups, they developed their own unique recipes, each featuring one of the hero ingredients: pepper, salmon, or pineapple. The children demonstrated fantastic creativity, teamwork, and culinary skills throughout the process. Their final dishes were not only well-prepared but also delicious! Judging was carried out by Mrs Rogers and Mrs Newitt, who were thoroughly impressed by the quality and imagination shown in each group’s creation.
Hands-On Digestion Experience!
This week, Year 4 carried out an exciting practical activity inspired by their English class text Gut Garden by Katie Brosnan and their Science work around digestion. Working in pairs, they simulated the process of eating and digesting, using simple equipment to represent the key body parts and their functions. The highlights included squashing a cracker, banana, and orange juice mixture inside a sealed bag (the stomach), squeezing it through tights (the intestines), and finally pushing it through a cup—as a poo! There were plenty of gasps and comments like, “This is the most disgusting thing everrrrr!”. It was a fun and memorable morning that really helped them understand digestion in a hands-on way!

General Reminders
Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.
Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email
parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).
Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer. Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
