Have you ever considered being a parent governor?
The governing body at Alveston is recruiting two parent governors to join our team.
Being a governor can be a rewarding opportunity to continually improve the quality of education at our school, and take an active role in supporting the staff and pupils in their development.
We are looking for governors with a background and strong skills in finance, HR, legal or Health & Safety.
Are you someone who has the skills to help and wants to make a difference?
Our governors:
-
Are as committed to the school’s success as the staff who work there.
-
Play a role in the board’s overarching responsibility to set aims and objectives for the school.
-
Work with senior leaders to set the strategic direction and hold senior leaders to account.
-
Do not get involved in the day to day running of the school eg. uniform, routine, staff selection etc.
-
Develop an understanding of how the school works, its strengths and areas for its improvement.
-
Ensure familiarity with the national standards for headteachers to appreciate the challenges and expectations associated with the role.
-
Remain objective and impartial towards school issues.
-
Invest time in personal and professional development.
-
Attend 6 full governing body meetings a year (on Thursday evenings from 6pm), plus monitoring visits and planning sessions.
-
Typically spend 4-8 hours per month on their governor responsibilities.
-
Serve a term of 3 years.
Although an integral component of the role is informing the board about parent-focussed issues, parent governors are not there to represent the views of other parents in the community. Parent governors are an independent governor, who should act as a part of the board, working towards the board’s objectives, and contributing as an individual and not a delegate for parents.
All governors share equal responsibility for execution of the three key functions of the board:
-
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
-
Holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
-
Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
For further information on the role and how to apply, please contact Chair of Governors Alex Quinn on quinn.a@welearn365.com.
Deadline for applications is Monday 7th June 2021.
Yours sincerely,
Alex Quinn
Chair of Governors
Who is eligible to be a parent governor?
