News

28th March 2025

This week school was filled with 'to be or not to be' as we celebrated 'Shakespeare Week', but we also have been thinking about our value of hope. What a beautiful symbol of hope our blossom tree is on the playground. So many of you have commented on its beauty as it has come into bloom this week. Year 4 spent their RE lesson on Thursday marvelling at the awe and wonder of it and taking a moment to reflect on other things that they were grateful for in the 'now'. It was fantastic to hear that so many of you attended the Smartphone Free Childhood workshop this week - this in itself gives us so much hope to have a world where our young people aren't attached to devices but can be out, enjoying the sunshine, playing and maximising their childhood! Another example of enjoying the 'now'.

As we head into Mothering Sunday, I wish everyone a weekend filled with love and peace. It's not an easy weekend for everyone but I hope you can find hope, awe and wonder in the beauty of things around you.

Best wishes

Jess Newitt

Shakespeare Week - Sneak Peek!

Next week's newsletter will feature a full rundown of all the exciting things that went on at Alveston Primary during Shakespeare Week. In the meantime, there's a sneak peek at what Year 2 got up to above.....

Year 2 made a creative response to The Tempest (drama, models, artwork) and during Art they made a collage of the island using the textured media they had worked on last week!
All Things Compost!

On Wednesday, Ruth came from Warwickshire Recycling Team to teach us all about composting. She taught us about the importance of equal parts green and brown waste in our compost to ensure the right balance. Great things to add into compost are vacuum waste, shredded paper, toilet rolls inners and used tissues. However, you should never add dairy, animal waste or meat. In addition, it's important to ensure the compost is positioned in half sun and half shade and on a used run way (to ensure rats are discouraged from visiting). She was so interesting and we are really keen to compost. Especially now that we cannot put any food waste at all in our school bins. Our Eco Committee then worked with Ruth to make newspaper pots and planted their own peas. Hopefully these will grow. They have told their classmates how they too can make their own eco pots.
Exploring Texture

In Art recently, Year 2 used different media e.g. sponges, brushes and straws to create different textures. It was great, messy fun!
Bicycle Bus Bonanza!

On Friday 4th April, we will be joined by the Warwickshire County Council Road Safety and Active Travel team who will be giving away some freebies to those on the Bicycle Bus that day!!!

This will also be Simon Storey's last week as our Bicycle Bus 'driver' so if you would like to hop on board with Simon and grab a freebie, make sure you join the bus next week!

Lashings of Team Spirit

Year 4 had a whirl at Forest School last week, focusing on trust games where teams supported their friends falling from a short height. Others started with clove hitches before making square lashings frames. So much expertise, focus and teamwork from our children - wonderful!
Desktop Maths!

Year 4 had a blast using number lines to learn about mixed number fractions. And here's a secret - Mrs Potter let the children write on the tables!
As featured last week, here are three of our four fabulous Reading Celebration prize winners, fresh out of this week's Celebration Assembly, proudly displaying their quiz-winners cup and medals! Well done again to Hattie, Max, Benji and Korra.

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
