News

17th May 2024

This week has been all about Year 6 SATs. It is quite a production - 4 different locations and over 10 members of staff involved in administering the tests. We work hard to keep the whole event, involving so much strict process and procedure, as calm and relaxed as possible and everyone in our school helped to deliver this successfully. The Year 6 children arrived at 8.30am each morning for their breakfast (toast with a myriad of toppings and lots of fresh fruit!). They were so excited coming through the gate, the sight and sound of their arrival made all our hearts sing. What has been truly delightful is the lasting impression of the week on our Year 6 children - it has been about breakfast, extra play and the surprise party! The SATs tests themselves seem to be an after thought in their comments, but those who mention them have only positive things to say about how they found the tests and how prepared they felt.
Every child in school has been so respectful of the need for calm and quiet during our morning sessions, to allow their peers to focus and do their very best, everyone shining so brightly and demonstrating once again the strength of our community. Thank you to all our children, from Reception to Year 5, for the kindness you have shown, to all our staff for this huge team effort, to our parents for all their support at home and last, but by no means least, to our Year 6 children who have shown such maturity and wonderful motivation - you have once again been an inspiration to us all.
Wishing everyone a rest-filled and relaxing weekend,
Anne Clewley

Kings and Queens for the Day!

Year 1 visited Kenilworth Castle as part of their Kings and Queens topic.  The castle was truly magnificent, particularly in the summer sunshine!   The children acted as detectives to search out features of the castle such as fireplaces and toilets!  They learnt lots about the castle's history and were truly fascinated by the height of the walls and the castle's defences.  A lovely picnic was eaten under a magnificent tree before coming back to school.  A wonderful experience for everybody!
Alveston Owls Update

As promised in last week’s newsletter, we are continuing to work hard on our planning for Alveston Owls. A number of families have contacted us as they need to give notice to their current provision. To enable these families to make an informed decision, we have prioritised confirming our wrap around sessions and the prices. This letter provides a brief outline to allow families to make their decision. Additional details on terms and conditions will follow in due course. If you are concerned about a particular aspect, please do speak to us, email us on parents3002@welearn365.com or call us on 01789 293412. We are more than happy to discuss any concern or comment you have.

Prices

We have considered costs at other local schools and local providers. We have structured our price to include a breakfast or light tea for those staying later. Those children who choose to have something to eat will have a little extra for their money and those who don’t eat are therefore not paying extra for something they do not have.

We have 3 price structures to suit individual requirements, whilst also allowing us to plan staffing and also cover additional costs associated with later bookings.

Pricing Structures

  • Contracted: Charge for families who would like to secure their sessions. Sessions must be booked the half term before. E.g. families book the sessions they require for Autumn 1 in Summer 2.
  • Flexi: Charge for booking 5 or more school days before the session required.
  • Ad Hoc: Charge for booking with less than 5 school days’ notice before the session is required.

People Who Help Us (continued...!)

Reception class have had another busy week with visits from some more special people who help them in their every day and in their community, as part of their People Who Help Us topic.

A Special Visit from Reverend Linda

Reverend Linda visited Reception class and shared the bible story Jonah and the Whale. The children asked lots of interesting questions. Thank you for such an exciting visit Reverend Linda.

A Special Visit from the one and only, Mrs Clewley

Reception also had a very exciting visit from Mrs Clewley to find out all about being a head teacher. Mrs Clewley told the children all about her role and answered their questions.  The children discussed how she and other adults in school help them.  Mrs Clewley then read a hilarious story to the class called Don’t Eat the Teacher!

Mrs Rogers
Reception class teacher
Stratford in Bloom 2024

Following our successful first place win last year, we would love to make it the double and be the Bloom Champs of 2024! Mrs Fielding is at the helm once again, running our Gardening Club and leading our Stratford in Bloom entry.
We are planning to deliver a kaleidoscope of colour using our new raised flower beds and we need your help! We would like to ask our families to help us by providing some bedding plants (flowers only this year!) If you think you can spare a bedding plant or two, we would love to have them. In an ideal, dream world, we would love the colours of the rainbow broadly following each class's colour. So if there is a choice, please would you send ones according to the class your child is in? Please see below. However please do not worry, we will be very grateful any colour at all!

Reception - red
Year 1 - orange
Year 2 - yellow
Year 3 - green
Year 4 - blue
Year 5 - purple
Year 6- pink

Please would you bring any bedding plants you have into school during the first week after half term, from Tuesday 4th June? Mrs Fielding will get busy planting them that week.
Please can we ask families to add this request to their class WhatsApp groups, just to make sure everyone has seen our plea? Many thanks! We've got this Team Alveston!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday) nor for COVID absences.

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via parents3002@welearn365.com.
