October 2025

3rd October 2025

What a week at Alveston! From our School Council inspiring us to think about our hopes and dreams, to a visit from the new Bishop of Coventry - Bishop Sophie - on Wednesday, to fun at the Pumpkin Disco on Friday, it's all been going on! Throughout it all, the children have been learning and making us proud each day by shining brightly with everything they are doing. However, as is always the way at this time of year, there are lots of bugs going around and we are reminding the children of the importance of washing hands to combat the spread as much as possible. Do let us know on the gate if your child is under the weather and we will keep a close eye on them.

Uniform reminder - Please can children wear green jumpers only on school uniform days. Children should only wear black jumpers on PE days (green jumpers can be worn on these days too). Now that the weather is changing, please can all children ensure they have their school coat in school every day. These are needed at break, lunch and for Forest School. If you have any questions about uniform, please don't hesitate to speak with me.

Have a lovely weekend.

Evacuee Experience

Year 6 had a fabulous day out this week at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, where they enjoyed a World War 2 evacuation experience! The children rode on a steam railway train from Winchcombe to Cheltenham and back again. They experienced an air raid and even got their chances to be firemen by playing an exciting team game. They heard war stories and experienced a variety of primary historical artefacts - including toys and clothes. The children looked wonderful in their 1940s evacuee costumes and they enjoyed their war-time lunch!
Fun on the River!

Year 5 had a fantastic day bell boating on the River Avon in Stratford. The pupils learned how to paddle up and down the river by working as a team, even navigating through the lock! Along the way, they also helped the environment by collecting plastic debris from the water. The children showed great determination, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the whole day. We are really looking forward to competing in the Stratford Schools Regatta in the coming weeks...watch this space!

 A Visit from Bishop Sophie

We were incredibly honoured this week to be visited by Bishop Sophie, the new Bishop of Coventry. She came to see what life was like here at Alveston CofE Primary School. Our four Year 6 members of the Collective Worship Committee led Sophie, Rev.d Linda and their companion around school and showed them things that they felt made our school special. Bishop Sophie loved seeing D&T in Year 2 and PE with Reception and Year 5, as well as the gorgeous artwork throughout the school. All the children were extremely welcoming, as they always are, and showed Sophie what makes Alveston truly unique.

A huge well done to our four Year 6s. They were very nervous taking on this big responsibility but they shone so brightly and should feel incredibly proud of themselves.

School Council Share Hopes and Dreams

The School Council recently led our Collective Worship and the theme was Aspirations, Dreams and Goals. They advised us that we could all have any dream but to ensure our dreams came true we needed to remember the three 'p's - practice, positivity and perseverance.

Our School Council presented with passion and confidence (see some lovely pictures right here). Well done!

‘Rescue Me! Recycle’ Campaign

Warwickshire residents are being encouraged to keep up their excellent recycling efforts and Warwickshire County Council wants to reassure local households that they can be confident that their recycling is turned into new materials:

All of the recycling collected at the kerbside in Warwickshire goes to Sherbourne Recycling in Coventry. This is a facility co-owned by the 5 waste collection authorities in Warwickshire –  North Warwickshire Borough, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough, Rugby Borough, Stratford District and Warwick District, alongside Coventry, Solihull and Walsall Councils.

The Rescue Me! Recycle campaign continues to shine a spotlight on items that are not routinely put in the recycling bin by everyone and too often end up in the rubbish bin.

Following the success of last year’s campaign, Rescue Me! Recycle returns with two new recycling items joining the recycling mission:

  • Empty shampoo and other toiletry bottles; and
  • Clean metal kitchen foil and foil trays.

 The above two items join the list of recycling items from last year:

  • Trigger spray bottles;
  • Aerosols like deodorant and air freshener cans;
  • Yoghurt pots; and
  • Toilet roll tubes and kitchen roll tubes

In Warwickshire, the Waste and Recycling Team are putting missed recycling items front and centre by sharing their top tips for recycling:

Recycle more of these items:  empty bottles from food and non-food products; clean metal foil.

Make sure you recycle these items: cleaning product bottles; aerosols; yoghurt pots; toilet roll tubes; beverage and food cartons (sometimes called Tetrapak).

Items need to be empty and rinsed: whole, not squashed; keep lids on.

These items should not go in your kerbside recycling bin: vapes; batteries; electrical and electronic items; nappies; cookware

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
