Millie and Ted name Stratford's Polar Bears

17th December 2021

If you go down to Stratford today, you're in for a big surprise!

Just outside Debenhams, you will find a family of polar bears lighting up Stratford town centre this Christmas. The three animatronic polar bears are part of a fun display unveiled on the first day of the town’s Victorian Christmas Market on Thursday December 9th. The bears – a baby bear, granny bear and grandpa bear – were all in need of names, so the town council invited Stratford’s school children to name them via their schools.

We are so proud that two of the bears were named by two Alveston pupils - Year 4's Millie and her brother Ted in Reception.  The bears were christened  ‘Honey Tot’ by Ted and ‘Grouchy Grandpa’ by Millie.

The children were presented with their own bears and also won tickets to see Jack and The Beanstalk at the Stratford Playhouse. Millie and Ted were also really brave going on to the stage in front of a big audience to collect their prizes - shining brightly every step of the way!

Congratulations Ted and Millie!
