Yesterday Reception visited Oversley Hill Farm as part on their work on Seasons and Spring.
The day started making bread and turning cream into butter - both of which we were able to enjoy with lunch. We were able to go into the chicken house, to feed and stroke the chickens and to collect their eggs. The chickens had been busy that day and had laid 8 eggs. Next we went to see the sheep - there were expectant mums as well as lots of newly born lambs (the youngest was one day old). The sheep were very friendly and wanted lots of feeding and fussing. Despite some people feeling a little nervous initially, everyone overcame fears and touched or fed the sheep and the beaming smiles showed lots of pride. We saw cows and their calves and looked at how the cows feed the newly born calves with milk. We all got to sit up high on the tractor which was very exciting. A real highlight was free play on the huge field, including rolling down the hill. There was lots of laughter and excitement.
We had such a wonderful day and we are very lucky to have seen a real working farm.
