7th March 2025

As the sun has shone, so have the children at Alveston this week. What a week of highs! We simply love welcoming you in for Learning Together Time and there was some ‘Magic Maths’ happening - challenging lots of thinking and processes. Year 6 had an amazing time in London on Tuesday, visiting Parliament and seeing the sights. We welcomed our SIAMS inspector on Wednesday and this was an opportunity for us to try and demonstrate how our vision is living and breathing within all of us. Thursday saw everyone in their own clothes – dressing up as characters or wearing their pyjamas to celebrate reading. We aspire for all children to leave Alveston with a love of reading and days like this go a long way in supporting this aim. Finally, on Friday, Year 5 have been shining in a project working with the RSC, learning about Romeo and Juliet and acting this out with special techniques. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful opportunities right on our doorstep!

I hope you enjoy a sunshine filled weekend.

Kind regards

Jess Newitt

World Book Day 2025!

A fabulous day was had by all on World Book Day! Please check out what everyone got up to, right here. You won't want to miss the brilliant pictures of staff and children in their amazing costumes and pyjamas!

Roarsome Reception

Reception had a 'roar some' time at Forest school recently: some helped to build and feed our fire for having hot drinks; others made interesting bark rubbings before transforming them into Dinos. Our eagle-eyed palaeontologists hunted for natural items on our Dino themed scavenger hunt. So much fun!
Parliamentary Jaunt

Year 6 went to London to visit Parliament this week! We had an absolutely fantastic day out. We started the day with lunch at St James Park and an unexpected viewing of the King's Guards in ceremonial practice. We enjoyed the beautiful sunshine whilst taking in the sights of Buckingham Palace, the Mall, Horse Guards' Parade and 10 Downing Street. We were so lucky to see both the House of Lords and House of Commons in session at Parliament and witness parliamentary ping pong! We had a tour of the Palace of Westminster and the honour of meeting our MP, Manuela Perteghella! All in all - a day to remember!

Pictures of Year 6's memorable day can be found here.

Dear Diary

Year 4 explored a range of different diary entries, from past to present, and identified the key features present in each one. They discovered the use of first-person pronouns, expressions of personal feelings, an informal tone, and the inclusion of specific details to make the entries relatable and engaging. This exploration helped them understand the different ways diary entries can capture personal experiences across time. We can't wait to share our diary entries with you soon!
Alveston's Bicycle Bus

Alveston's Bicycle Bus is really gathering steam and is set to become a great success. Check-in next week for lots of photos. In the meantime, take a look at our updated route-map above so that you can join the pedal power!
Volunteering Victory!

Sadie, in Year 6, has been shining brightly beyond the school gates! Last weekend, Sadie was awarded "Junior Volunteer of the Year" at Stratford upon Avon Parkrun. Activities Sadie will have been involved in include pre-event set-up, marshalling duties and time-keeping... to name a few. Without volunteers like Sadie, Junior Parkrun could simply not go ahead and this is an event that is really popular in the local community.  Fuelled by her success, Sadie also recorded a PB on the same day! Well done Sadie!!
Community Interest

We post all community events and projects on our website under 'Our Community'. For more information about activities open to you, your family and your local community, please do check the pages regularly:

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane, Oak Road or any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message.  You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:

parents3002@welearn365.com
