21st October 2022

There is nothing better than an autumn walk! Blue sky, bright sunshine and autumn leaves on the trees and underfoot. When your autumn walk takes you to the Harvest Festival with all our children and parents - it is truly magical! I will never tire of seeing over 200 children all in high-vis jackets walk Main Street, chatting happily with their partners on the way to church!

Celebrating Harvest at St James' with Revd. Linda, singing hymns, performing seasonal songs, reciting poetry and reminding ourselves of all that we have and of all those we can support, is a wonderful way to come together as a community. The church was full to bursting with every generation from new born babies to grandparents. Enjoying this shared experience with their friends and families, our children took part in their class performances and it was truly joyful!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped to make our Harvest Festival such a delightful experience for our children. Thank you too for all your donations for Harvest. After half term we will take these to the Stratford Food Bank. If you would still like to make a donation please send them in on our first Monday back in school.

We would like to wish you all a restful and peaceful half term holiday and we look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday 31st October.

I want to ride my bicycle!

This week Year 6 participated in a Bikeability course.

For level 1 they learnt how to maintain their bicycle, glide, control their bike, pedal and be aware of surroundings. For level 2, the children were able to head out of school and on to the roads around Tiddington!

They learnt how to start and stop, pass stationary vehicles, understand and negotiate the road and share the road with others.

All the children gave one hundred percent effort and had lots of fun. Well done Year 6!

!! Friends of Alveston Annual General Meeting!!

You may remember in our newsletter on 30th September we asked you to save the date for The Friends of Alveston's Annual General Meeting.  The meeting is on Thursday 17th November in the school Community Room. The Committee have however changed the time to 2pm to enable more parents to attend.

It is the most important meeting of the year as we need to fill some committee places. You can find all the information about the meeting and the committee by following this link.

Please remember we really do need your help! If these committee positions are not filled, we will not be able to have a parents’ association and sadly it will mean the end of many exciting events our children and families enjoy.
Place2Talk

Place2Be is a charity working in schools to improve the emotional wellbeing of children. Some of you may be aware that we have been working with Place2Be for the last couple of years. We are pleased to inform you that Amy Fetridge from Place2Be will now be working in school on both Mondays and Tuesdays.

After half term, Amy will be offering 'Place2Talk' sessions for our children during lunchtimes. Children will be able to book a short appointment with Amy to talk about their worries. A letter will be sent home with more detail after the holidays, which will include a slip if you wish to opt out of the service for your child/children.
Parents and carers of children in Place2Be schools can also access free advice, resources and services as part of the mental health support for the whole school. Find out more at place2be.org.uk/family

General Reminders

Parking at Drop Off and Pick Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop off and pick up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please do not park on Knights Lane or Oak Road for pick up or drops offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic resuming and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

The car park is safer for pedestrians as well as families loading and unloading into cars. Parents have reported an increase in cars parked on Oak Road and many cars have parked on double yellow lines. Please be considerate to the safety of all. Thank you.
