April 2026

24th April 2026

This week in our collective worship, we have spent time reflecting on the importance of kindness. It has been a powerful theme, and there has been no greater example of kindness and community coming together than what we have witnessed in our school this week.

Thank you to everyone who supported Year 4 in their bake sale at the end of the week. The children were absolutely delighted by your generosity in supporting their friend, and it was truly heart warming to see such a strong sense of care and compassion across our school community.

Building on this spirit, we are now working together as a school on a fundraiser for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We are planning something special for Wednesday 15th July. A day that we would usually celebrate as ‘Well-being Wednesday’ will be focused on raising funds for this important cause. More information will be shared soon, but I can assure you that we already have some exciting plans in place.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Please can I remind you that, whilst the OPAL equipment is fabulous and fun, it should not be played with after school. Thank you.

Library Explorers

This week, Year 2 have been immersing themselves in the world of books as part of their work on rewriting Little Red Reading Hood. The children explored the school library in a variety of exciting ways—sniffing their pages, feeling different textures, dusting off “ancient” stories and even laughing at jokes in the comedy section!

Through these activities, the children discussed what libraries are all about and why they are such special places. They then brought this inspiration into their writing, using rich description and imagination to bring books to life within their own stories. It has been wonderful to see their creativity flourish and their enthusiasm for reading and writing grow.

Year 5 took part in a netball coaching session provided by Stratford Girls Grammar School, this week. All children got involved and thoroughly enjoyed playing netball in the sunshine.

Hockey Honours

Oliver, in Year 6, was the very proud recipient of not one but two end-of-season hockey awards last weekend!  Oli was presented with the trophy for the "Most Improved Player" for U11s and won the "Team Spirit Award" for U12s. These accolades were much deserved as Oli has played brilliantly for Stratford Hockey Club over the past year and is a real asset to the U12s team. Congratulations!
Fabulous Footballers!

On Monday, our after-school football club hosted Thomas Jolyffe Primary School for a 7-a-side match. From the warm-up and team-talk to the very last kick of the game, all of the children showed wonderful team spirit and determination. Jude and Elliott both had turns in goal, making some amazing saves and the incredible defending from Harry, Liam, Noah and Jude meant it was very tough for the opposition. Edward, Kaisen, Quinn and Ollie all had attacks on goal at lightning speed throughout the match and by half time, it was 2-1 to Alveston. They boys knew at half time the game was not yet won and it would require the same level of focus and grit in the second half to secure the win. Mclaren kept up the pressure on the Holy Trinity defence with some great runs and a lovely corner. Jenson worked tirelessly in centre midfield to get back and defend some tricky shots on goal by the opposition. Superb goals from Quinn, Elliot, Kaisen and Ollie led to a 5-2 win to Alveston! It was a very exciting game to watch with lots of moments to celebrate and some very tired legs at the end of it. All of the players put in a huge amount of effort and should be very proud of their spirited performance. A big thank you to Mr Stowe for refereeing and to Miss Mabbett for organising the fixture. The boys are already looking forward to their next game…!

General Reminders

Parking at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
We are so lucky at Alveston that the Football Club allow all our parents who drive to school to use their car park for drop-off and pick-up. This makes it safer for all our children. Please continue to use the Football Club car park. Please note: Parking is only available if there are spaces free and we can only park in the allocated bays. Once all the marked bays are full each day, parents will need to find alternative parking when dropping off and collecting their children. Please do not park in any other areas of the car park going forward. Please do not park on any double-yellow lines for pick-up or drop-offs. Please also ensure that you do not stop or park within the zig-zag "Keep Clear" markings at the main entrance to school. This area is marked to keep the flow of traffic moving and to ensure the safety of all pedestrians.

Sickness and Absence
Please let the school office know each day your child is absent from school by calling 01789 293412, option 1, and leaving a message. You may also email parents3002@welearn365.com. You do not need to contact us daily if your child is sick/vomits. Absences for sickness/vomiting will be recorded 48 hours from the end of the day your child was last sick (i.e. if sick on Sunday, come back on Wednesday; if Tuesday come back on Friday).

Medicines in School
We cannot accept medicines in school without a prescription label and a medical form completed by a parent or carer.  Please ask the school office for more information and/or a form via:
parents3002@welearn365.com
